2013 Minister's Seniors Service Awards recognize outstanding work

  • 89 individuals and organizations are nominated for this year’s Minister’s Seniors Service Awards.
  • Nominees include Margery Laatsch of Pincher Creek

“These annual awards celebrate the dedication and commitment of Albertans who volunteer their time and energy in support of seniors,” said Fred Horne, Minister of Health. “Their efforts have a great impact on our communities and our province - and they make a difference in the lives of seniors.”

Nominees are evaluated based on:

  • their impact on seniors and the community;
  • the need for the service they provide; and
  • the measure of diversity, quality, and originality in their service.

Award recipients will be honoured at a special celebration on June 5, during Seniors’ Week.

Nominee Margery Laatsch has been assisting Pincher Creek and Crowsnest Pass seniors for 15 years. She helps with activities at the Crestview Lodge and assists with clinics through the Alberta Health Services' Volunteer Resources Program. She also delivers Meals on Wheels.

“All of the nominees are to be congratulated on their contributions,” added George VanderBurg, Associate Minister of Seniors. “These individuals and organizations provide valuable services which support our seniors and help improve their quality of life.”

Every day, Albertans are volunteering their time to make a difference in the lives of their fellow citizens. In many cases, seniors are the recipients of these volunteers’ generous support, and rightly so.  Alberta seniors contribute to our families and communities in so many ways, and their ability to make these contributions and enjoy a high quality of life often depends on the support of volunteers.  The Minister’s Seniors Service Awards area way to recognize the efforts of these volunteers and let them know how much we appreciate everything they do to improve the lives of seniors in our province. - Alberta Ministry of Health
