On April 11, 2013 the students of Canyon Elementary School kicked off the 'Jump Rope for Heart' and 'Hoops for Heart' annual pledge driven fundraising campaign.

Heart and Stroke Foundation Fun Development Representative Kara Brake talked to all the kids about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle with good diet and exercise plans.

Brake awarded prizes to students during a question and answer session and showed videos of people doing exceptional tricks with skipping ropes and basketball equipment to get them excited about the upcoming drive, and of people affected and involved with the drive itself. The crowd was enthusiastic when kids from their own school came out to demonstrate their prowess with ropes and hoops.

The kids were offered pledge sheets, and shown how to pledge online.  If they enter their pledges online  they will be entered to win additional prizes, including a personal phone call from an NHL player and other NHL prizes.  For pledges that are not entered online, Brake showed the kids a variety of prizes for different levels of pledges.

All the funds collected this year will be donated in the name of previous Canyon School Vice Principal John Norgard, who passed away from a stroke in January of this year.
