A Year in Review from the Pincher Creek Curling Club

Curlers took to the ice November 5, 2012 with Tuesday night Men’s League with 9 teams and short of one game, playing a double round robin. 1st place went to the Francis Cyr team, second place to the Dave Pletz team.

Wednesday and Thursday nights featured 16 Mixed League games.  1st place went to the John Taylor team and a close second went to the Francis Cyr team.

Both leagues had a mix of seasoned and new curlers and great fun was had by all.

We had several young people come thru our doors this season. Angela Walters had 8 kids in the Little Rocks, where players between the ages of 8-18 get together and learn to curl. There was great participation from the schools also. Matthew Halton had all their Junoir and Senior High classes come at 3 different times with approximately 135 students per time. They also had a mixed team and a girls team that practiced twice a week under the coaching of Jill Klapp.  St. Mikes had their Senior High classes come 2-3 times with approximately 47 students participating. They also had a girls team coached by Lana Zoratti and Kyle Williams. Pincher Creek colony brought 40 students for most of a day to give it a try.

In addition to league play, the Club hosted several bonspiels through the season. It started with the Funspiel and Cabaret organized by Jessie Nelson, which was held the last weekend of October. It was a perfect start to the season. January 25 and 26, 2013 was the Combo Spiel with 8 mens and 8 ladies teams that included 3 out-of-town teams from Fort Mcleod and Crowsnest Pass. 2 weeks later we hosted the Town and Country bonspiel, a week long event where businesses, friends and families put together 18 teams to join in a friendly little competition. March 1 and 2 was the last bonspiel of the season with 12 teams participating including 1 out-of-town team from Fort Mcleod.

Overall, it was a great season and we would like to thank all our volunteers and supporters who make it possible...YOU ROCK.
