Video and the Voice

Chris Davis, Pincher Creek Voice

One of the most popular aspects of the Pincher Creek Voice has been our video content.  Checking our YouTube Stats reveals this data:

In the last year and a half we've published 418 videos, ranging in length from under a minute to over two hours.  At this point we publish, at a guess, about 10 videos a week.

Those videos have had 48,683 "Lifetime views", total views since we launched our pinchercreekvoice YouTube channel.

In the last 30 days our videos have had 3,207 views for a total of 10,483 minutes watched, just under 174 hours.

Those are huge numbers.

Seriously.

HUGE.

It's not by accident.  We've invested a lot of time, resources, and know-how into our video output.  Recently we've made the move to publishing them on YouTube in high definition, which takes a lot longer in terms of processing time, both in terms of producing the video and in terms of publishing it to YouTube.  I believe the results have been worth it.  Presently it sometimes means a delay in publishing both the videos and the stories that accompany them.  I also firmly believe the story is just as important, most of the time.  Most often it's more important, even.  However, for some things, nothing beats having a video to show instead of tell.

In the future we envision creating a weekly and then bi-weekly video news show to act as a wrap up of recent events and all the other things a news show does.  Live-streaming of certain events is also planned for our future.

We don't have the budget for that yet, but we're working on it.

Once we start gearing up for that we will be looking for "talking heads" to be the faces and voices of the Pincher Creek Voice.  Nobody in this town needs to see my mug anymore than they already do!  We're excited by the possibilities.  Live broadcasts of important sporting events?  Why not?

That brings me to advertising and revenue.  I firmly believe our videos are an untapped gem for area advertisers who want to make their mark.  They've certainly done wonderful things for our brand all over southern Alberta, including of course right here in Pincher Creek.

If your enterprise is interested in supporting our video endeavours and reaping the reward of large-scale exposure, we should talk.  403-904-2666 is the phone number.  pinchercreekvoice@gmail.com is the email address.

I've put up a YouTube screen in the right sidebar of this website as an experiment.  If it proves popular and doesn't interfere with people's ability to access the site (I know the interweb can be dodgy around here) we will keep it up in some form, although probably not where it is right now, as that's our prime advertising space.  As always, your feedback is appreciated.

That brings me to this:  Thanks for all your feedback.  We listen to what people say to us as we're out and about, and it informs what we do in a big way.

  1. Videos are an important part of the message whether imbedded or stand alone. Thank you for providing a valuable service for readers to enjoy. Videos enhance an article written with visual clarity of immediate actions that are not always captured in the print medium of the day.
