At a ceremony held on February 1, Shell Canada donated $50,000 to the Pincher Creek and District Municipal Library.  According to Librarian/Manager Janice Day the funds will be used to help with the library refurbishment project, specifically to accommodate video conferencing but also to provide a quiet place in the library.  Library Board Chair Earl Shields said the renovations would likely take place this spring and should be finished by late summer/early fall.

Shell Social Performance Adviser Lynn Calder said the project, representing Shell's "largest donation in many years to this community", was inspired by longtime Friends of the Library members Stephanie and Dick Hardy.  Stephanie passed away in March, 2012.  Dick and their daughter Suzanne Kirby were in attendance for the donation ceremony.

Also in attendance were Friends of the Library members Rose Johnson and Barb Kananen, Library Board member Ken Paulson, Town Council Representative on the Library Board Lorne Jackson, Deputy Reeve Rod Cyr, and Shell Waterton Community Affairs Coordinator Rod Sinclair.
