Canyon School Grade 6 Leadership Students Jarred Plante and Taylor Delay were Masters of Ceremony at a special assembly held on Tuesday, January 29.

"Today we will be awarding prizes for our recent Pennies for Polio Drive, our reading challenge for Family Literacy Day, as well as watching students from Grade five music and Grade one P.E." said Delay.

"It is our pleasure to introduce a special guest from the local Rotary Club of Pincher Creek, Mr. Gerry Alex is President of the club," said Plante. "He is here to receive a cheque from our school.  Would Mr. Alex and Jocelyn Watts come forward at this time?"

Student Jocelyn Watts presented Mr. Alex with a cheque for $256, representing money collected by the Canyon School students for the Rotary Pennies for Polio campaign.

"Wow, that is something folks.  $256.50.  I am so impressed with what these boys and girls have done here today," said Mr. Alex.

"That amount of money that you have given us here today will help over 2,500 other children get a polio vaccination.  I am talking about children that live in very poor countries, in other parts of the world.  What you've done is a remarkably wonderful thing.  When you need to get something done, ask the kids to do it, because when they get after something, they really get it done."

Awards for most pennies collected went to Mrs. Willoughby's  3A class for Division 1 and to Mrs. Brown's 6A class for Division 2.
