Longview Library – Spring Programs and New Books
Courtesy of Gazette Grassroots
We are very grateful for the strong relationship that has developed between the Longview Elementary School and our library. Jan Dyck, their librarian, and Joan, our librarian, are responsible for this. The children have participated in several programs this year, especially designed for them by Joan. We hope this liaison continues well into the future.
We have put a jar on Joan’s desk and hope you will fill it with any pennies you have on hand. Thank you!
February Showcase at the library will be the Grades 3 and 4 Tongue Twisters that they created at the Longview Library during Literacy Week.
March Showcase will be Donna Bieda’s Handcrafted Quilts.
The week of February 25th is Freedom to Read Week which the Marigold Library System and the Longview Library support. Joan will be having a Freedom to Read book display in the library during this week.

My friends on the board and I are always amazed at how many gifted and award winning Canadian authors there are. I would like to share with you some of their names. My list is quite extensive, so I shall mention a few in this column and others in future articles, so you may enjoy them too. The first is Louise Penny. She is the author of mystery novels set in the Eastern Townships in Quebec. She has won 3 literary awards and her book Still Life is being made into a made-for-T.V. movie, the shooting of which is underway now on the outskirts of Montreal. Lori Lansens hails from Chatham, Ont. and has won acclaim throughout the world and has been translated into a dozen languages. David Bergen, who lives and writes in Winnepeg, Manitoba, authors historical and science fiction works and has won, among other awards, the Giller Prize. Gail Bowen is a playright and author of the Joanne Kilbourn murder mysteries. She was a professor of English at First Nations University of Canada, and has retired in order to write full time. She is the winner of the Arthur Ellis award. Enjoy!
