Atom 1 Chinooks win one and lose one

On the morning of Saturday February 16 the Atom 1 Taber Oil Kings came to town, playing our Chinooks at the MCC Arena. The Oil Kings demonstrated great teamwork and perseverance, but were eventually defeated by the more aggressive Chinooks.

Chinooks goaltender #1 Wesley Krampe was on this game, and the Oil Kings didn’t score any goals in the first period. Chinooks #17 Rylan Bruns, assisted by #12 Alex Comeau scored an incredible opening goal, bouncing right off the glove of Oil King’s goaltender #30 Blake Van Beers. At 11:21 Chinooks #5 Logan Deley was assisted by Rylan Bruns in scoring the Chinooks second goal. This was a great period for Bruns, who was assisted by Comeau in scoring the third goal of the game, a nice high corner shot. #8 Sam Jordan assisted Bruns in earning his hat-trick at 4:46. The period ended with the Chinooks in the lead 4 – 0.


The Oil Kings stepped their defensive game up a notch in the second period, keeping the Chinooks from scoring opportunities for five minutes. At 15:41 #14 Carsen Komery of the Oil Kings was assisted by #3 Josh Verloop in scoring their first goal of the game. Chinooks #9 Trinity Tanner and #8 Sam Jordan worked together to assist #5 Logan Deley in consolidating the Chinooks lead, earning their fifth goal at 14:20. At 7:30 by Alex Comeau scored his second goal of the game. With 4:12 left on the clock the Oil Kings managed to make their last goal of the period. However, Trinity Tanner snuck one more past Van Beers with 33 seconds left. The Chinooks ended the period with a five point lead, with the score at 7 – 2.


The Oil Kings opened the third period with a goal, made less than a minute in by #11 Carter Hendricks, who was assisted by #9 Conner Tams. Bruns replied at 18:41, making his fourth goal of the game, unassisted. 10 minutes into the period #8 Nathan Verloop scored his second goal of the game for the Oil Kings, assisted by #4 Brady Silver and #10 Brylan Span. With just over 8 minutes left in the game Josh Verloop scored the Oil Kings final goal, assisted by #7 Joey Fabbri and #11 Carter Hendricks. #14 Michael Kaupp was assisted in the final goal of the game by Alex Comeau, making a nice high shot. The Chinooks won the game 9 – 5.

For their final game of the regular season the Atom 1 Chinooks traveled to Vauxhall on February 17.  The Vauxhall Sabres won that game by the narrowest of margins, 8-7.
