Atom 1 Chinooks vs CNP Thunder C. Davis photos |
Pincher Creek's Atom 1 Chinooks met with disappointment at the second of two Provincial Games against their Crowsnest Pass Thunder counterparts. The two teams tied 4-4 in the first game, which you can read about here. The Thunder had home ice advantage for the second game, which was played on the evening of January 23. Alex Comeau was missing from the Chinooks lineup, but Trinity Tanner was back and Associated Players Caleb Evans and Connor Stuckey were also on the roster.
The Chinooks scored 3 times in the first period to 2 goals by the Thunder. Neither team scored in the second period. In the third period the Chinooks fell apart, and the Thunder rolled right over them, scoring 5 unanswered goals to win the game by a score of 7-3.
Atom 1 Chinooks at Kimberly Tournament
Update: We apologize for an earlier version of this story. which was inaccurate.
The Atom 1 Chinooks played at a tournament in Kimberly over the weekend. They lost all four their games.
On Saturday, January 26 they played High Country in the morning, with High Country winning by a score of 6-2. In the afternoon they played Cranbrook, losing that one 6-2. That evening they played Fernie, losing 7-1. On Sunday, January 27 they played a morning game against Southland, losing 9-1. Wes Krampe manned the Chinooks' net despite being very sick so his team wouldn't have to forfeit, and the efforts of Easton Fitzpatrick, who was apparently quite determined to back up his ailing teammate, were much appreciated. Way to step up, Easton and Wes! Krampe saved an average of 77% - 84% in these games, a very respectable showing.
Note: Thanks to Jaimie McMullen for the road report.
