Athletes of the Day Sunday, January 27: MHHS Jr. B Girls Hawks basketball team

Matthew Halton School Jr. B Girls Hawks
Matthew Halton's Junior B. Girls Hawks basketball team hosted a Crossover games series last weekend, with 7 teams competing in 11 regular season games.  The Hawks lost all three of their games (two of those by slim margins) but managed to stay positive and upbeat about it throughout.

I have three grade eights and the rest are all grade sevens, so they're all pretty new to the game," said Coach Melody Bastien in between games.  "They're really coming along  they're really jelling as a team.  They're really nice girls.  They get along really well."

"The are a good bunch of girls, and they're really all willing to come out and play.  They come to games, and practices. When we practice, we run, run, run, run.  These girls like to run, and they're enthusiastic, they just want to play ball."

"We are mostly working on teamwork, working together.  That was the thing that was lacking when we first started, that I noticed.  Then they just really pulled it together and they're a really close-knit team now."

The Junior B Girls Hawks will be playing a game against their Dragons counterparts at St. Michael's School tomorrow, Monday, January 28.  Game time is 4:15 pm.
