After a fairly successful showing at a tournament in the Crowsnest Pass last weekend, where they placed third, St. Michael's Senior Boys Volleyball squad was back at their home court on the evening of November 5, hosting Fort Macleod's F.P. Walshe Flyers.

Unfortunately for local fans, the Dragons left their mojo at home this time out.  They seemed lethargic and disorganized, with "their heads somewhere else", and it cost them.  The Flyers are a very competitive team, but so are the Dragons, usually.  This time out they were not in top form, and the Flyers rolled right over them.  The Flyers dominated the game, winning three straight sets by scores of 25-17, 25-22, and 25-12.

The JV's were up next, playing for fun, since the Dragons don't have enough JV players to fill out a complete squad.  The first set was the most entertaining of the evening.  The JV Dragons set the pace early, ahead by a few points through the first half of the set.  Finally at 19 points the Flyers caught up, and after that it was neck and neck, with the two teams tying at 23 points, 24 points, and 25 points.  The Dragons managed to make the final two crucial points for the win, taking the set by a score of 27-25.  After that the Dragons ran out of steam. The Flyers swooped to two swift victories in the next two sets, winning set two by a score of 25-12 and the third and deciding set by a score of 25-15, to win the game.

Of the tournament in the Crowsnest Pass Dragons Coach Tony Bruder said "We played very well on Friday.  We played Vauxhall, a pretty good team, and we beat them.  We played the first game against the Pass, and we beat them.  On Saturday we got up against Fort Macleod, and they did the same thing (as we saw tonight).  They've got this mental block when they play Ft. Macleod, and I don't know what it is.  Then they played Foremost, a very good team, and lost to them.  We went back to play Fort Macleod to go to the final and they beat us again.  We played a little better against them and showed some shiny spots in that game."

There will be a Post Season Volleyball Tournament here in Pincher Creek this weekend, which will be held at both St. Michael's and Matthew Halton schools on Saturday, November 10.  There is also a Senior Girls Post Season Tournament on Friday, November 9 and on Saturday, November 10.
