Premier offers congratulations to President Obama
Alberta Premier Alison Redford provided the following statement in response to the results of the U.S. presidential election:
“On behalf of the Government of Alberta I would like to extend congratulations to President Barack Obama on being elected to his second term as President of the United States.
All of the women and men - win or lose - who put their names forward in Senate, House of Representatives and state-level elections today also deserve sincere recognition for the noble goal of serving on behalf of the American people.
As our largest trading partner, our neighbour and our friend we look forward to continuing to work closely with the President, members of the administration and all of Congress, to strengthen one of the world’s most important and successful relationships.
The Alberta-U.S. partnership extends to members on both sides of the aisle and we look forward to continuing our active engagement as a leading provider of responsibly developed energy resources.
I have made it a priority since taking office to travel to the U.S. to meet face-to-face with elected representatives and key decision-makers at the Federal and State level. Similarly, I have encouraged my cabinet and caucus colleagues to work constructively on both sides of the border with U.S. counterparts on issues of shared importance.
As the next four years present us with tremendous challenge and opportunity, I only see our level of engagement with the United States increasing significantly.
We will continue to promote the importance of Alberta’s resources as a critical component in helping to achieve North American energy independence and economic security.
Our government will also work hard with U.S. state and federal decision makers on transportation issues and border policies that ensure safe and efficient two-way access and flow of goods and services.
At the same time we will continue to respect U.S. processes and regulatory decision making.”
