Huskies left winger #24 Dan Bikman got his team off to a good start, with an unassisted goal early in the first period at the 14:06 mark, but it was mostly bad news for the Huskies after that. Lomond right winger Cam Hurt scored twice in the first period, assisted by Rustin Murray the first time and by Josh Wiest and Ashford Mcmaster the second time. At the close of the first period the Lakers were ahead 2-1.

The second period belonged entirely to Lomond, who kept the puck in the Huskies' end for much of the time, pressing Huskies goaltenders #33 Jeff Kaupp and #1 Joel Hasselman hard. The Lakers scored four unanswered goals in the second. Cam Hurt picked up two assists, #11 Marc Krushelnicki scored twice, David Foord scored once, as did #5 Manny Yellowfly, who also got an assist. Matt Richardson and Maverick Blair earned assists. At the end of the period the Lakers were ahead 6-1.

The third period was marked by some rough stuff, and a determined Huskies team. The Huskies held off the Lomond offense and the game was appearing a little more balanced than it looked in the second period. At the 9:27 mark Huskies right winger #7 Taylor Elliott finally managed to get one past the Lakers' defence, assisted by Kevin Olson and Mason Bond, bringing it to 6-2. That's where things stood at the final buzzer.

Huskies fans were pragmatic about the loss, understanding this is a new team finding their way out there. The word of the evening was "gel", as in "They haven't quite gelled yet," which seems as accurate a description as any. Lomond had the edge in teamwork and passing and they managed to bring the game to the Huskies, and it showed on the scoreboard.
