Don't forget to Fall Back

T. Lucas photo

Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday, November 4, 2012 at 2:00 am local time.  Set your clock back by an hour.

Daylight Saving Time (DST) is now observed in every Canadian province.  Saskatchewan stays on DST year round.

Alberta amended the Daylight Saving Time Act in 2006 and began observing the change in 2007 to synchronize our time with our largest trading partner the United States, and to conserve energy by reducing the need for artificial lighting.

Prior to that amendment Alberta "sprang forward" three weeks earlier than we do now, and "fell back" one week later than we do now.

According to Transport Canada DST likely reduces pedestrian and motor vehicle occupant fatalities and injuries, because the highest frequency of pedestrian injuries occur between the hours of 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm, and DST ensures more natural lighting during those hours.
