Rockin' out at St. Michael's

Josh Davis, Pincher Creek Voice

On the afternoon of Friday June 15, 2012 Saint Michael's School held its year-end rock concert. The performances were spectacular, in spite of technical problems that left the Seniors playing without monitors for half of their show.

First up was the Junior High band, rotating its musicians song by song. They opened with Chip Taylors 60's classic 'Wild Thing', followed by 'Jailhouse Rock' by the legendary Elvis Presley, then 'We Stand Together' by Nickelback, ending with AC/DC’s rock classic 'T.N.T'.

The Senior High band, named Midnight Circus, also rotated its musicians durng their set. They started with Adele’s 'Rolling in the Deep', followed by 'Jet Lag' by simple Plan, then Carrie Underwood’s 'Cowboy Casanova'.

After this Katrina Holoboff led the group with one of her own songs, a sombre tune aptly titled 'Mistakes'. Following this was '21 Guns', by Green Day, Taylor Swift’s rock/country number 'Better Than Revenge', Oasis’ 90s hit 'Wonderwall', and then 'Cross My Heart' by Mariana's Trench. They then shook things up with Tek N9ne’s rock-rap piece 'If I Could', before playing Bryan Adams’ 'Summer of ’69', and Collective Soul’s 'Better Now'. One of the many highlights of this show was when Holoboff brought up a couple of the younger members of the audience to help her sing the next song, 'Free Fallin’ by Tom Petty. After this, they finished their set with 'Baba O’Riley' by The Who, revelling in the chance to fit Amelia Woodard's violin into the rock concert.

Joining the show to play Pat Benetar’s 'Hit Me with Your Best Shot' were surprise guests, teachers Mrs. Zorrati, Mrs. Alexander, and Mrs. Smith. These talented and lovely ladies rocked the house.

You could tell that the concert was a phenomenal success by how the audience was reacting; most the younger members were out along the sides of the gymnasium dancing throughout the entire show, and the cheering was non-stop until the show was over.  The lighting throughout was spot-on.
