Travel Advisory issued for Highway #2 north of Calgary

Update: Saturday May 5, 6:00 pm

Road conditions and visibility on Highway #2 north of the City of Calgary have returned to normal.

This morning, in a short three hour period, members of the Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit, Alberta EMS and area Fire Departments responded to five separate motor vehicle collisions between the City of Calgary and the Didsbury Overpass, Highway #582.

Upon arriving on the scene of the collisions that involved extensively damaged vehicles, several of which had rolled over, responding emergency personnel were surprised to discover that there were no serious injuries or fatalities.

Investigation by the members of the Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit discovered that all of the occupants in all of the collisions were wearing their seat belts.  The use of seat belts reduces the likelihood of sustaining an injury and greatly decreases the severity of injuries that are sustained in a collision.   Seat belts can reduce the risk of a fatal injury by 45 - 60%.   Seat belts are the single most cost effective life saving device currently available to motorists.   Seat belts saved lives today.
