Nominations open as search begins for Alberta's volunteer stars

They are found in every community in Alberta; volunteers who give generously of their time and talent to deliver recreational, social and cultural programs to youth, families and Alberta’s most vulnerable citizens. Do you know a volunteer who goes that extra mile? Someone who stands out as a true community hero? They may be a perfect candidate for a Stars of Alberta Volunteer Award.

This year marks the 13th edition of the annual awards program recognizing Alberta’s local heroes whose volunteer efforts and contributions have made a significant difference in their community and helped to improve the lives of community members.

Six awards will be handed out: two in each category of youth, adult and senior at the Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards gala ceremony on International Volunteer Day, December 5. Since the program began in 2000, 77 Alberta volunteers have been recognized with this honour.

The Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards Program is an integral part of the Government of Alberta’s commitment to Alberta's nonprofit voluntary sector. Volunteer recognition programs help set a standard for service, encourage a sustained commitment to civic participation and inspire others to make volunteering a central part of their lives. Most importantly, it is a chance to say thank you to the Stars nominees, award winners and all of Alberta’s outstanding volunteers.

Help honour an exceptional volunteer from your community whose generous efforts are contributing to Alberta’s vibrant quality of life. Visit www.culture.alberta.ca/voluntarysector/stars or call 780-415-8139 (dial 310-0000 for toll-free access) to nominate a volunteer. The deadline for nominations is September 25.
