The Pincher Creek Minor Hockey Association (PCMH) met for their Annual General Meeting on the evening of April 16, in the basement of the MD of Pincher Creek No. 9 building. About thirty people were present for the meeting.
"Respect in Sport", an online training program, was discussed. For the next season, for a child to be involved in Hockey Alberta one parent must take the online certification course, which takes approximately an hour. Every coach and every referee is also expected to take the course. It is designed to encourage and inform positive behaviours and safety. According to Hockey Alberta "The number one reason cited for coaches, managers and officials of all ages leaving a sport is unacceptable parent behaviour."
PCMH decided to allow the Chamber of Commerce to borrow their hot chocolate and coffee machines for an upcoming trade show.
Quite a bit of discussion centred around the carding of teams, with Todd Vance explaining some of the intricacies of the process. It's possible we may see an initiation team carded as a novice team next season so that players can be pulled up if there is a novice shortage due to non-attendance, injury, or other reasons. Vance said the final decision would be up to SPUD. Vance projected there might be 19 initiation players for the next season and 11 novice players. 14 of those initiation players would be in their last season before moving up.
The biggest discussion of the day centred around proposed changes to the PCMH bylaws with respect to the way the Executive would be organized in the future.
After a spirited debate, it was decided PCMH would adopt the proposal, which results in an elected Board consisting of 7 members, to be assisted by 9 appointed positions. The Board only will have a vote at Board meetings in the future, and the appointed people will have a Board member act as their voice at those meetings.
Prior to the conclusion of the meeting, the assembled members of PCMH elected a new board.
