Forest fire near Fort MacMurray causing traffic delays

Near Fort MacMurray:

Wood Buffalo RCMP have been dispatched to what was initially believed to be the scene of a collision on Highway 63 near the Suncor overpass. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the incident did not involve a vehicle collision, however emergency crews are on scene dealing with a forest fire.

The exact cause of the fire is unknown at this time however the flames began after a nearby transformer blew. Visibility is reduced due to heavy smoke and one of the northbound lanes of the highway is currently closed causing traffic delays. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution when traveling in that area.
