St. Michael's Jr. Girls Dragons basketball team hosted their Piikani counterparts on the evening of February 16 at the Dale Wentz Memorial Gymnasium.

The two teams played a fairly evenly matched first quarter, but it was all downhill after that for the Dragons, who were ultimately outscored by the Piikani girls in every quarter, resulting in final score of 55-28 Piikani.

Top scorer for the Dragons was #14 Emily with 9 points.  Top scorers for the Piikani teams were #22 Trisha with 18 points, #15 Madison with 17 points, and #13 Mackenzie with 10 points.

The Piikani team earned the right to go to Zones with this victory.  For the Dragons, the season winds down after games in Fort Macleod this weekend.

Piikani Coach Barney Provost was understandably proud of his team.  "We've had an undefeated season," he said.  We haven't lost in our league yet, and we've played some big schools in 3 to 4 A tournaments.  They can play ball, but they have to get that teamwork up. We've had some Grade 9's come back to our school from other schools,  and they were part of a good basketball program, so they kind of helped us with the program. The Grade 9's are really strong players."
