MSI funding approved for Huddlestun Senior's Centre roof upgrade and Water Spray Park in Waterton

According to the 2012/13 budget released recently by the Province of Alberta and other related documents, $100,000 in funding through the Municipal Sustainability Initiative (MSI) has been approved for upgrades to the Huddlestun Seniors Centre roof in Pincher Creek.  $60,000 was also approved for a water spray park in Waterton.

The Town of Pincher Creek has been allocated $723,473 Capital Funding for 2012, $64,630 Operating Funding, for a total of $788,103.  The MD of Pincher Creek No. 9  has been allocated $1,089,239 Capital Funding, $91,874 Operating Funding, for a total of $1,181,113.  The Village of Cowley has been allocated $136,557 Capital Funding for 2012, $37,606 Operating Funding, for a total of $174,163.

The Government of Alberta has committed to providing $11.3 billion over the lifetime of the MSI fund to municipalities. MSI funding is provided each year to all municipalities in Alberta according to a formula based on population, education property tax requisitions, and kilometers of local roads. In addition, municipalities receive base funding of $120,000 per year. $15 million in Sustainable Investment funding is divided among municipalities with populations of less than 10,000 with a limited local assessment base.
