Fans of the Pincher Creek Midget Huskies are wondering how it went so very wrong. The team was up against the Sundre Huskies for the number 1 spot in their own Midget Tournament, held at the MCC Arena this weekend. The Pincher Creek team was on a roll, winning twice, and decisively so, in tournament play on Friday and Saturday.
The puck dropped shortly after 1 pm, Sunday, January 15. From that moment on the party was over for Pincher Creek. Sundre dominated and decimated our boys in play after painful play. Sundre played a very physical game from the outset. Bruisers. On top of their physical approach, Sundre dominated offensively and defensively. They made the most of every opportunity, controlling the puck and shutting down the Pincher Creek offence, harassing their defence, while keeping up a constant barrage on Pincher goalie #35 Braeden Claringbull. A goalie relies upon a strong defence. Claringbull was up against a constant barrage the whole game.

The first period ended with Sundre up 5-0. When Pincher Creek got near the Sundre net, they failed to capitalize on the rebounds and bounces. Sundre goalie #19 Jaydon Millard was rock solid in his net. Rock solid and frequently bored.
By the end of the second period the score stood at 8-0 and tempers were very obviously flaring.
The third period was one of the ugliest I've seen this season. Dirty hits, brawls, hollering at the ref, magnified by the extreme disappointment felt by the Pincher Creek team and its fans. Brawls broke out in the last few minutes of the game, resulting in the ejection of several Huskies. In total Pincher Creek racked up at least 63 minutes in total penalties, in addition to the ejections. Sundre, by comparison, racked up 44 minutes in penalty time.
At the end of the game, it was Sundre 12, Pincher Creek 0.
So, Sundre's Huskies go home the champs of the Pincher Creek Midget Tournament, Pincher Creek's Huskies go home to tend to their wounds and dust themselves off, with their record for the season now a still highly respectable 7-2.
