Matthew Halton High School was scheduled to host two basketball games on Monday, December 5. The first was between the Senior Halton Hawks Girls against Nanton's J.T. Foster Raiders.

The senior girls teams each showed spirit and enthusiasm, but it was quickly evident that the Hawks were a better overall basketball machine.  They had more of the fundamentals down, and worked better as a team.  This was made obvious by the final outcome of 72 - 33.

Matthew Halton Principal Sandy Triett was attending the game, and during the second period had to say that the Hawks "came out strong from the start."

The Raiders took their loss gracefully,  with Raiders' Coach Roger Doucet stating that "this was the first game for the girls.  They played well, and more practice willl help.  We are looking forward to having a good season."

Dakota VanLoon #12, and Sydney Reidel #14 matched each other for high scores for the Hawks, at 17 points each.

Larrah Smith #5 was the high scorer for the Raiders, shooting 9 points for her team.

The second game scheduled was to be held between the senior boys teams from Matthew Halton and Piikani Nation.  Unfortunately, that game was cancelled do to a no-show from Piikani, likely due to the road conditions.   The Halton boys chose to use the court time to practice their game.
