Yesterday afternoon, December 7, Pincher Creek Emergency Services, Cowley Fire Department and Peigan Ambulance responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 3 in the coulees close to Cowley. Three vehicles were involved. RCMP indicated their early analysis suggested a pickup truck heading westbound struck the tire of a semi-tuck, after which the pickup truck was thrown into oncoming traffic, striking a van. Two people had to be extricated from the pickup. One was taken to Lethbridge Hospital and the other was taken to Calgary after being treated in Pincher Hospital.

Shortly afterwards, Pincher Creek Emergency Services and Cowley Fire Department also responded to a single vehicle rollover involving five people trapped in an upside-down pickup truck. This accident happened just east of the coulees on Highway 3. One person had to be extricated from the vehicle. Four people were transported to Pincher Creek Hospital for treatment.

Pincher Creek RCMP were also on scene for both collisions. Several RCMP officers indicated that these were both unnecessary occurrences. "Slow down out there," was a common refrain. Road conditions were poor enough to warrant reducing speed, being somewhat icy with light snow falling, but visibility was relatively good.
