Toni Lucas, Pincher Creek Voice
The
Silver Reins Club hosted the five local Pincher Creek area 4-H Clubs for a 4-H District meeting in the Horseshoe Pavilion on November 8. Tables were set up for different points of interest, and those new to their positions got the chance to learn what it is that would be expected of them, and what their positions did for their clubs.
Members from five separate clubs met together. Pincher Creek Chinook Multi 4-H, Foothills 4-H Beef, Silver Springs 4-H Light Horse, Rocky Mountain Swine Club, and the Pincher Creek Silver Reins Light Horse Club met together for the evening information sessions.

Various responsibility categories that are accounted for in each club had their own station. There was a table for those in the position of Secretary, one for Presidents and Vice Presidents, another for Executive members. Chris Davis and me, Toni Lucas, from the Pincher Creek Voice, and Shannon "Shootin' the Breeze" Robin attended the station set up for Club Reporters and Historians. After covering what the 4-H Club expects out of those positions, the media gathered were invited to explain their take on media, and to give tips and tricks to help these kids move forward within their positions.

Robin Sinclair worked both with the group in general, and with Historian Kassi Wells of Silver Reins. Wells was the only historian to come to the meeting. Sinclair brought books illustrating what the past historians had done to archive the work of the club as examples, showing that there was flexibility within the framework of the position.

Voice photog Chris Davis told the 4-H Cub Reporters that he once spent an inordinate amount of time photographing a bee, to get just the right shot. Apparently they took the lesson to heart.
Pincher Creek Voice publisher Chris Davis handed over cameras to the group for an impromptu photography lesson. The new students were excited at the chance to get to work with the gear, and excited to practice on those gathered at the table, within the room, and at the calf roping practice that was being held in the pavillion at the same time. They shared cameras and found subjects that interested them. We are showing here some of the proud efforts of fledgling photo-journalists, even though we cannot say for sure in many cases who took which pictures, who the subjects are. Photographers included Thomas Gilmore, Cooper Hagley, Kassi Wells, and Bryce Crawford.

At the end of the evening, thank you presentations were given to the Executive and invited guests. (Editor's note: Thanks for the Tim Hortons gift cards!) The meeting was followed by snacks and refreshments.

Pop quiz, Cub Reporters: What's wrong with the above article?
Extra points if you can tell us who took what picture for proper credit.
