No one injured in Burmis area house fire

Toni Lucas - Pincher Creek Emergency Services (PCES) and Crowsnest Fire and Rescue responded to a residence on fire  at approximately 9:45 am, Monday, September 5, 2016. The residence is located south of Highway 3 near Rinke Sawmill, west of the Burmis vehicle inspection station.  According to PCES Deputy Fire Chief Pat Neumann no one was injured but the home has suffered a significant amount of damage from the fire, smoke and water.  Neumann said the fire is still under investigation, however it may have been related to a wood burning stove.


The call came in from both the residents and passers by. Crowsnest Fire and Rescue sent a Command Vehicle and PCES sent teams from Pincher Creek, Beaver Mines, and Lundbreck.

Some tips for wood burning stoves

• Make sure the chimney is clean
• Do not place combustible materials too close to the stove
• Always use a screen in front of the fireplace
• Never place the ashes in a plastic or cardboard container
• Never leave children unattended by a fire 
• Have a fire escape plan for your house and regularly review it with your family
• Check your smoke detectors monthly, and replace the batteries as necessary
