The empty halter
The day after Robbie sold his first 4-H calf he brought the empty halter to church. That halter and the pathetic look on Robbie’s face told it all. On past Sundays he had lovingly talked about training and caring for his calf. Now he told what happened. It wasn’t about the dollars raised. It was about the surrender of his pet. As we listened, tears welled in all our throats.

Kennedy and Ernie warn kids to spot the danger before they play |
Kennedy was 13 when she lost her left leg in a train accident. She and her friends were playing by the railway tracks and decided to hop on a moving train. Kennedy fell off and her leg went under the wheels. Ernie was chasing a dog on the farm when he fell onto the blades of a moving grain auger and lost his left arm at the shoulder. They are now using their experiences to pass on an essential and possibly life-saving lesson to other children – PLAYSAFE!

Fish anyone?
- Canada’s Food Guide recommends at least two - 75 g servings of fish per week.
Pat MacIntosh, Alberta Health Services - Fish is an important part of a healthy diet for people of all ages. It is an excellent source of protein, vitamin D, and omega-3 fatty acids which help maintain a healthy heart. When pregnant women eat fish, it helps with brain and eye development of the growing baby.
However, some people avoid fish due to concerns about mercury. Most fish is low in mercury and safe to eat. Common examples are Atlantic mackerel, canned light tuna, clams, haddock, herring, oysters, rainbow trout, salmon, sardines, shrimp, sole, pollock (Boston bluefish), and whitefish.
