Photography class at MHHS Experiential Learning Week

Toni Lucas - If a picture is worth a thousand words, the students in the Photography class during Matthew Halton High School's fall Experiential Learning Week were handing in essays.  The students got to understand more of how cameras work, and what constitutes a good photo.  The students I spoke to supplied their own camera for the class, all of them digital single lens reflex models.

They learned about the exposure triangle: aperture, shutter speed and ISO.  The students had the chance to visit Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village and Lebel Mansion for a photography trip as well as taking photos around town and at other classes within the school. They had to bring back their photos and design a magazine cover and do a magazine-style page layout.  Even if they never pursue a career in photography, having a good understanding of how the equipment works and how to take a good photo will help them capture the moments that matter to them.
