859 Crowsnest Air Cadets finish training year, begin summer training

859 Crowsnest Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Cadets

Cadets from 859 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron held their 38th  Annual Ceremonial Review Parade in Blairmore the evening of June 15th.  Mr. Wayne Shaw, Deputy Commander for District 6 of the Royal Canadian Legion was on hand to inspect cadets and take the salute during the parade’s march past.  Mr. Shaw served for over 32 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, including over 4000 hours of flight time as a Loadmaster in the Air Force.  The Annual Ceremonial Review marks the symbolic end to local training that runs between September and June. Representatives of the Air Cadet League, Squadron Sponsoring Committee, and of the Coleman, Blairmore, Bellevue and Pincher Creek Legions were on hand to help celebrate the occasion.

The parade commander for the event was Sergeant Chase Lincez, the senior cadet with the squadron.  He was awarded the 2015 Royal Canadian Legion Cadet Medal of Excellence during the parade to recognize his hard work and dedication to the cadet program and to community service.  He received a promotion in rank to Flight Sergeant during an awards ceremony following the parade.

Flight Corporal Austin Pool was the recipient of the 2015 Lord Strathconca Trust Fund Medal during the parade, recognizing his long and distinguished training record, a high level of physical fitness, and community service.

Three cadets departed early morning on July 5th  to attend cadet summer training centres.  Flight Corporal Maisa Danaf is attending the Basic Aviation Course (3 weeks) focusing on aviation and aeronautics in Cold Lake AB, the home of Canada’s fighter jet pilot training.  Flight Corporal Jaeger Hann is attending the Basic Drill & Ceremonial Course (3 weeks) focusing on parade square movements in Vernon BC, home to cadet summer training courses since 1949.   Flight Corporal John Makin is attending the Drill & Ceremonial Instructor Course (6 weeks) focusing on parade square movements and instructional techniques in Albert Head BC, near Canada’s Pacific Coast naval base in Esquimalt BC.

859 Crowsnest Squadron trains every Monday night at the Elks Hall in Blairmore from 6:30 PM to 9:15 PM, September through June for youth aged 12–18 years old.  New recruits are always welcome.  There is no cost to join and uniforms are provided free of charge.
