The Peewee Chinooks are on their way to the final round of Spud League Peewee B playoffs after a very dominant second win over the Taber Oil Kings on Sunday March 8th at the MCC. The Chinooks cruised to their 9-0 victory after the second period blew the game wide open. When the Chinooks last played the Oil Kings in the regular season it was a different story, the Oil kings managed to win that one 3-1. But in the first playoff game between the Chinooks and the Oil Kings on March 1, the Chinooks came back and defeated Taber 5-1. The Chinooks had to work hard for goalie Wes Krampe's shutout on March 8, killing off 8 penalties.
Nelz Vance scored a hat trick for the Chinooks. His best goal of the afternoon came in the third when he broke out of the defensive zone, deked around a few Taber players, and fired a shot off the post and in. Michael Kaupp also earned a hat trick and an assist. Wes Krampe earned his 8th shutout of the year, but this one may have been his most important. He was tested early on but after the first few goals by the Chinooks most of the pressure stayed in the Oil Kings end. Krampe did have to make an impressive save off a shorthanded breakaway midway through the third. Although no one on the Oil Kings managed to score, they had a few good chances with a good attempt on a breakaway that didn't go in. Taber goalie Talen Damberger may not have had a good game on the score sheet, but he did everything he could to keep his team in the game, stopping more that a few good shots.
