The 46 year old man had gone out on a snowmobile at approximately 6:00 pm, running in to difficulty shortly later. With his cell phone he contacted RCMP for assistance. He was unable to provide his exact location to the RCMP. He lit a fire and waited with his machine. EPS investigating hit and run pedestrian
The Edmonton Police Service is investigating a hit and run collision between an SUV and a pedestrian that took place in north Edmonton, and are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating the vehicle involved, shown below.
At approximately 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2014, a 32-year-old male got out of his delivery vehicle parked westbound along 127 Avenue east of 126 Street. It was reported by witnesses that the employee had just exited the driver side when he was struck by an unknown vehicle travelling westbound. The vehicle turned right and proceeded northbound on 126 Street, allegedly slowing down briefly before speeding away. EMS treated and transported the 32-year-old male to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The delivery vehicle sustained damage to its left-hand side.

Witnesses describe the vehicle as a four-door, dark-coloured SUV with a roof rack and tinted windows – possibly an older-model Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango with canopy, or Nissan Xterra. The vehicle is also believed to have sustained damage to its right-hand side.
“We are asking for anyone with information about this vehicle to come forward to police, or that the driver of the vehicle comes forward to speak with us about the collision,” says Const. Jeff McIsaac with EPS Northeast Division.

EPS busy during first weekend of holiday checkstops
The Edmonton Police Service Traffic Section members had a significant impact on keeping impaired drivers off city streets over the weekend.
Police arrested and charged 17 motorists with impaired driving and issued 22 roadside suspensions, during three Checkstops held across the city between Thursday, Dec. 4 and Saturday Dec. 6, 2014.
The EPS officially launched its Holiday Checkstop program last Thursday evening, and will continue running its stationary and roaming initiatives throughout the month of December.
The EPS Checkstop program involves vehicle-stop locations and roving patrols across the city looking for impaired drivers. While it is aimed at detecting impaired drivers and removing them from the road, a large component is also aimed at educating the public of the dangers and consequences of drinking and driving.
The Checkstop Campaign enhances other EPS impaired driving enforcement efforts such as Target All Drunk Drivers (TADD - police mobile enforcement near entertainment areas) and Curb the Danger (citizens reporting impaired drivers by calling 911), and helps to make city streets safer for all citizens.
If you suspect a driver is impaired, please contact police as soon as possible to Curb the Danger:
Call 911 if it is safe to do so. Calling 911 in an emergency, or to report an impaired driver, is permitted while driving under the distracted driving law.
Report the location, vehicle description, and licence plate number.
Keep the vehicle in sight but do not attempt to chase the vehicle, or break the law to do so.

Investigations reveal that an altercation took place in the residence between the intoxicated male and another male who were known to each other. A male suspect was interviewed by police and released in the morning on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014.
An autopsy was scheduled to take place December 8.
Police are not looking for any other suspects at this time.

Stolen school bus batteries in Calgary
The Calgary Police Service is investigating the theft of hundreds of batteries from a northeast bus yard.
Sometime between 2 pm on Sunday, December 7, and 5:30 am on Monday, December 8, 2014, 237 batteries were stolen from 79 school busses (three per bus) at a private yard located at 8220 48 Ave. N.E. In total, the theft is estimated at $20,000.
The batteries were located in an external compartment on the exterior of the bus. In each case, the wires from the batteries were cut and the devices removed.
Unfortunately, no closed-circuit video is available, and the yard was left unlocked during the evening in question due to a late-night charter. Bus batteries are much larger than a typical car battery, therefore, a large vehicle, possibly a cube van, may have been used to transport the stolen items.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in or near the bus yard during the time in question, to call police at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods:
