Sexual assault suspect Justin Chase Mueller arrested

RCMP Blackfalds

On December 5, 2014 the Blackfalds RCMP laid 5 charges against Justin Chase MUELLER (DOB: 1986-March-04) as a result of a crimes committed against a 20 year old female on December 3. 2014. MUELLER has been charged with Committing a Sexual Assault with a Weapon, Commit Robbery with a Weapon, Kidnapping, Uttering Threats and Theft over $5000. A warrant for MUELLER's arrest was issued.

At approximately 9:30 pm, the Edmonton Police Service arrested Justin MUELLER on the warrant issued by the Blackfalds RCMP Detachment. MUELLER had called police from a residence in Edmonton and said that he would like to turn himself in. The Edmonton Police Service tactical unit attended the residence and MUELLER was arrested without incident. MUELLER is being transported from Edmonton to Blackfalds at this time, and the investigation will continue. The RCMP would like to thank the Edmonton Police Service and their specialized units for their unwavering support and assistance on this manhunt throughout the day.

In the interest of public safety, the Calgary Police Service is issuing the following public information and warning in regards to the release of an inmate. Charley Laurence HENDERSON, 22, was released from Winnipeg to the Calgary area, after completing a 20 month and 20 day sentence followed by a three year Probation Order for Sexual Assault and Indecent Assault charges. HENDERSON also has a history of Assault with a Weapon and Armed Robbery. He will now be monitored by the Calgary Police Service High Risk Offender Program and Probation.

HENDERSON has committed all of his past offences in the community of Winnipeg, Manitoba HENDERSON is described an Aboriginal male, 6’4” tall, approximately 235 lbs. with brown hair, and brown eyes. 

The Calgary Police Service is issuing this information and warning after careful deliberation and consideration of all related issues, including privacy concerns, in the belief that it is clearly in the public interest to inform the members of the community of the release of HENDERSON. Members of the public are advised that the intent of the process is to enable members of the public to take suitable precautionary measures and not to embark on any form of vigilante action. RCMP Edson

On December 4, 2014 approximately 7:35 pm Edson RCMP officers were called to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 16 in the eastbound lanes by Range Road 121. A pickup truck rear ended a semi-unit and both vehicles had been travelling eastbound. The 40-year-old male driver of the pickup and lone occupant succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Edson's man identity will not be released and next of kin has been notified .

At approximately the same time and location in the westbound lanes of Highway 16, 17 vehicles were involved in a pile-up collision. No injuries were reported at the time and the highway was shut down for several hours to allow the cleaning crews to remove the damaged vehicles.

Highway 16 is divided in that area. The visibility on the road was affected by heavy smoke from a controlled burn approximately seven kilometres south of the Highway.

Both collisions remain under investigation.

Police are asking motorists to slow down in the area if visibility is a factor between Range Road 121 and Highway 751 on Highway 16.

Fatal MVC near Minburn

In the early afternoon of December 4, 2014, Vermilion RCMP officers attended a two-vehicle fatal collision on Highway 16 at the intersection of Range Road 102 near Minburn Alberta. A minivan proceeding southbound on the Range Road 102 had entered the intersection and was struck by full-sized van travelling westbound on Highway 16.

The passenger of the minivan, a 65-year-old woman from Minburn, Alberta, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her husband and driver of the minivan was transported to an Edmonton hospital with serious injuries. The driver and passenger of the westbound van suffered minor injuries and have now been released from hospital.

Highway 16 Westbound was closed for several hours while a Collision reconstructionist conducted his investigation. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
Impaired driving blitz begins in Airdrie area

Members of the Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit and the Airdrie RCMP have already been busy apprehending impaired drivers on Alberta Highways today (December 5).

Today, Friday December 5th, at 1025am, a member of the Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit observed a south bound 2009 Nissan Versa travelling at an extremely high rate of speed. The officer obtained an alleged speed reading 170km/h in the posted maximum of 110km/h. The officer was on the wrong side of the cable barrier, and radioed to other officers of the dangerous driver. A second officer from the Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit and an officer from the Airdrie Rural RCMP responded to assist. The second officer was able to intercept the Nissan and obtain an alleged speed reading of 162km/h.

The driver of the Nissan, a 43 year old male from Edmonton, Alberta, was arrested for impaired driving and taken to the Airdrie RCMP Detachment for breath testing, where he provided breath samples more than double the legal limit. In addition to this, he had outstanding warrants, open liquor in the vehicle, the vehicle itself is unregistered and appears to be uninsured.

The driver will be facing numerous charges, including the following:

  • Dangerous Driving - Criminal Code
  • Unregistered Vehicle - Traffic Safety Act
  • Uninsured Vehicle - Traffic Safety Act
  • Open Liquor - Gaming and Liquor Act Regulations
Fatal workplace collision in Fort McMurray

Wood Buffalo RCMP

On Friday, December 5th, at approximately 8:50 am, Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a report of a fatal collision that occurred at the Canadian National Resource Limited Horizon Site. Upon arrival, it was determined that a lone male was deceased. RCMP attended the scene along with the municipal traffic unit and the Collision Reconstructionist.

Wood Buffalo RCMP are still in the process of notifying the next of kin, as such the identity of the male will not be released.

Telephone scam reported in Strathmore

On December 4th, 2014 the Strathmore RCMP Detachment received a complaint of suspected fraudulent activity. The complainant, a resident of Strathmore, indicated that they had been contacted via telephone by a representative of 'Mega Millions' based out of Washington, DC and instructed to forward a large sum of money, via bank transfer, in order to claim their multi million dollar prize. The investigation showed previous reports of alleged fraud involving the same company based out of Las Vegas, NV.

The Strathmore RCMP suggest anyone receiving these types of requests for money transfers and/or personal information, including credit card numbers, to be wary prior to making these types of transmissions and contact Phone Busters at the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre toll free at 1-888-495-8501 or your local RCMP Detachment for more information.
Online rental scams continue in Red Deer

Red Deer RCMP received three new reports in the last three days regarding online rental scams. In all cases, the potential victims were not defrauded of money, as all chose to physically verify that the advertised “rental property” was actually for rent before wiring money.

Like all scams, rental scams are ongoing – many scams are seasonal, while others crop up irregularly throughout the year. RCMP are pleased that Red Deerians continue to ask the right questions and show caution when dealing with strangers online.

Traffic stop marijuana seizure near Brooks

On December 3, 2014 at approximately 4:30 p.m. a pickup truck traveling eastbound on Highway #1 just east of the City of Brooks was stopped by Members of the Brooks RCMP for speeding. On contact with the driver Police immediately noted the strong odor of marihuana emanating from inside the truck. The driver admitted to consuming marihuana as he was driving. Subsequently the driver was arrested and a search of his vehicle revealed approximately 581 grams of marihuana along with various items of drug paraphernalia consistent with the production of cannabis marihuana and a large amount of cash. Street value of the seized marihuana would be in excess of $8000.00.

Austin Charles MACLELLAN, 26 years old, of Brighton, Ontario has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and production of a controlled substance. MACLELLAN appears in Brooks Provincial Court December 10.

Man shot in Calgary

The Calgary Police Service is currently investigating a shooting incident in the city’s southeast.

At approximately 6 pm Friday, December 5, 2014, officers responding to a call of a male suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. He had entered a business in the 5000 block of 17 Avenue SE seeking help.

The man, in his 60s, was transported to hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Witnesses report there may have been two masked male suspects, one wearing a red hoodie and the other wearing a brown and black hoodie.

Edmonton man pleads guilty to 3 firearms related offences in B.C.

On December 2, 2014 in the British Columbia Supreme Court, at New Westminster Law Courts, Christian Bonilla, of Edmonton, Alberta, pleaded guilty to three firearm related offences under the Customs Act and Criminal Code.

The Canada Border Services Agency’s (CBSA) Criminal Investigations Section (CIS), laid charges against Bonilla, including a charge under the Criminal Code for possession of prohibited devices, and two charges under the Customs Act for importing a prohibited firearm and smuggling. These charges stem from two separate incidents at the Aldergrove port of entry.

On April 23, 2011, Bonilla was returning to Canada and was referred for secondary examination. Upon an in-depth inspection of his vehicle, officers discovered six undeclared over-capacity MagPul PMAG .223 Remington calibre rifle magazines.

On May 26, 2011, Bonilla was again referred for secondary examination. A vehicle search revealed an undeclared prohibited Sig Sauer model P556 semi-automatic pistol.


These interceptions resulted in the CIS investigation and the guilty pleas on December 2, 2014, as well as subsequent investigations with other partners, including the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team and Edmonton Royal Canadian Mounted Police Customs and Excise.
