Mandel's letter continues:
"I commend the people of your community for their efforts to raise $450,000 for this renovation project. My staff has consulted with capital management staff of Alberta Health Services (AHS), and I am advised that the emergency room renovation project has an estimated project cost of approximately $650,000. As per our discussion, I am committed to ensuring that this important renovation project proceeds."
"My staff will work with Alberta Infrastructure and AHS to ensure that the remaining $200,000 in capital funding is addressed to allow the emergency room project to proceed without delay."
The project is intended to create a more efficient and secure work area, and to provide more privacy for patients and their families.
"I appreciate the efforts and the support of my council colleagues in our meeting with the Minister," said Reeve Hammond at the December 16 meeting of the MD council. "I believe it was successful in convincing him of the need here in this community."
"We have every reason to believe that it will happen."
Mandel was appointed Minister of Health on September 15, 2014. He was Mayor of Edmonton from 2004 to 2013.
