"Almost overnight it's become southern Alberta's Dead Duck Cafe." - David McIntyre
AltaLink spokesman Scott Schreiner says the company has completed their investigation of situation. Schreiner confirmed 345 dead birds were found, 344* mallards and 1 grey partridge. "We believe it was a combination of high winds and lowered visibility that caused them to hit the lines where bird diverters were in place, and where they weren't," said Schreiner.

Burmis area residents Eva and Dave Welsh expressed their concerns after discovering the discarded carcasses of geese, mallards, and a larger animal (possibly elk) in the parking lot of a popular day-use fishing area west of their home.
New STARS AW139 lands at Pincher Creek Municipal Airport

Members of Alberta's Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society (STARS) dropped in for a visit at Pincher Creek Municipal Airport Saturday morning January 25, flying in the newest addition to their fleet, a donor-funded AgustaWestland AW139 medium twin turbine helicopter.

Pincher Creek Emergency Services and local RCMP were called to a bizarre scene on Saturday morning December 28. A reported vehicle fire on Range Road 293-A approximately five kilometres south of Highway 3 between Pincher Creek and Brocket proved to be an unusual situation.

A wind related power outage affected the entire town of Pincher Creek today on Monday, January 13. A reminder from Fortis - Always remember to stay 10 metres away from a downed power line and call 310-WIRE.

TransAlta Control Center Supervisor Hal Jorgensen reports that there were wind gusts up to 43 metres per second at Summerview Wind Farm (155 km per hour), and gusts at Cowley Ridge of 40 metres per second (144 km per hour). Sustained winds reached 120 km per hour.
Pincher Creek's Midget Huskies hosted Magrath's Chiefs at the MCC arena on Sunday afternoon, January 5. The two teams are very similar in terms of skills, ability, and style of play, but the Huskies leveraged their stellar teamwork to win the game definitively by a score of 7-1. Huskies Captain Zach Wall announced his return to the ice after a sidelining injury by scoring the first two goals of the game.

The Pincher Creek Oldtimers 35th Annual Tournament was held at the MCC arena from Friday January 24 through Sunday January 26.
12 teams competed in three 4-team divisions, with players coming from Pincher Creek, Elk Valley, Fort Macleod, Piikani, Lethbridge, Calgary, and parts unknown. The youngest participant was 35 (the youngest age allowed), and the oldest was over 60. The youngest player was born the first year of the tournament.

The Withdrawls won the A division, the Nighthawks won the B division, and the Rats won the C division.
