MVC near Whitecourt and Swan Hills

Monday November 24th, 2014 11:05 p.m.

Whitecourt RCMP
and the Whitecourt Fire Department are currently on scene of a collision on Highway 32 between Whitecourt and Swan Hills, approximately 22 km north of Highway 43 (near the Pembina Plant).

On Monday November 24 at approximately 10:15 p.m., a tractor-trailer unit hauling chemical products was traveling northbound on Highway 32 when it lost control and rolled onto its side. The tractor trailer is blocking a portion of the road and some of the contents have spilled. The driver of the semi was not injured in the collision.

All traffic on Highway 32 has been stopped at the scene. It is anticipated clean up could take several hours.

An update will be provided when new information is available.

Injury MVC in Strathcona County

Monday November 24, 2014 p.m. 7:25 p.m.

Strathcona County RCMP and Strathcona County Emergency Services are currently on scene of a serious injury collision on Highway 16 near Range Road 214. ( By weigh scales)

At approximately 5:40 p.m., a tractor-trailer unit hauling two trailers was traveling northbound on Range Road 214 and was stopped at the intersection with Highway 16. The driver of the semi then attempted to cross the eastbound lanes of Highway 16 and turn westbound. The driver proceeded across the eastbound lanes and stopped in the median with a trailer still blocking the eastbound lanes. A pick-up truck traveling eastbound on Highway 16 collided with the rear trailer. The impact caused the pick-up to become lodged underneath the trailer.

The driver of the semi was not injured in the collision. The male driver of the pick-up truck and a female passenger were both transported to hospital via ground ambulance with serious injuries.

At this time speed, alcohol and road conditions do not appear to be factors in the collision.

Eastbound traffic is still moving but motorists can expect minor delays in the area as traffic is being detoured through the weigh scales. It is anticipated clean up could take several hours.

An update will be provided when new information is available.

The second incident involved a young male wearing a winter jacket with fur on the hood exposing himself to staff at the Vegreville Care Centre through a back window. Central Alberta jewelry retrieved

The Blackfalds RCMP recovered stolen jewelry last week. The stolen jewelry has been linked to four separate break and enters, within central Alberta, has been or will be returned to their respective owners in due course. The only pieces that have not been recovered are a men's gold Guess watch, a men's metal Nixon watch, a woman's unnamed round face watch with silver bracelet, a mens ring, a silver bracelet and two earrings (picture attached below).

Still missing
The Blackfalds RCMP received more than 25 phone calls inquiring whether the jewelry may have come from their respective thefts. It is apparent that jewelry remains a popular commodity for thieves to steal. In most of the phone calls when the victim was asked what was stolen the police would receive a general description of the jewelry which makes it difficult for police to identify. The RCMP are suggesting that people do an inventory of what jewelry they possess including taking pictures of the pieces so that identification is possible should it ever be stolen or lost.

The Blackfalds RCMP are also suggesting to people to protect their valuable pieces of jewelry in their homes by not leaving them in jewelry boxes on their dressers in their bedrooms. Thieves know where to go to steal the jewelry if it is left in the usual place. Hiding the pieces or using a safety deposit box to protect jewelry are two options. Jewelry that has sentimental value should also be protected as the thieves are normally taking everything and then sorting it out later.

Fatal MVC in Edmonton

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating a fatal collision that left a 27-year-old man dead.

It was reported that at approximately 4:30 am November 22, 2014, a westbound Pontiac Grand Prix was travelling at a high rate of speed when it entered the intersection at 132 Avenue and 127 Street on a red light. At the same time, a man was driving a Nissan Sentra northbound on 127 Street and proceeded through the intersection on a green light, when he was struck by the Pontiac in the right front bumper area. The collision caused both vehicles to rotate out of control and the Pontiac struck a large wooden post in the northwest corner of the intersection.

The 27-year-old man in the Pontiac, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.

The 36-year-old man in the Nissan, whose vehicle also struck the same post, was treated and taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
