On the evening of Wednesday October 1 the Westwinds Girls JV and SV Dragons hosted their Claresholm WHHS Cobra counterparts in the Dale Wentz Memorial Gym. The Cobras were victorious for both games.

Junior Varsity

The first JV set was exciting, with the Cobras taking an early lead to 11 - 4 before the Dragons pushed back hard to tie it 23 - 23, after which each team scored a single point, keeping it tied for awhile.  In volleyball sets play to 25 points but there's no winner until there's a two point difference, and these two teams were neck and neck, at the finish, with the Dragons ultimately winning it 28 - 26.

In the next set the Cobras started out strong again,  14 points ahead of the Dragons at one point. Although the Dragons again put a major push on to catch up, the gulf was too great and the Cobras took the set 25-18.

For the third set the Cobras and the Dragons went head to head, often being tied early in the set. This time the Cobras powered through the last half, pulling ahead to a 25 - 12 win, thereby winning the match 2 out of 3.

Senior Varsity

The Senior Girls squads took to the court next. On the Dragon team many of these girls had already played three sets as they played both on the JV and SV team. The Cobras and the Dragons each have players on their teams that are equal in skill and determination to their counterparts. The Cobras edged forward by being able to use those individual skills better as team, through communication and holding their positions well. The Cobras took the first three sets (in a best-of-five), winning the match with scores of 25 - 20, 25 - 15, 25 - 23.
