Missing Lloydminster teen Megan Hill

Missing: Megan Hill
The Lloydminster RCMP are requesting the help of the public in located a missing 16 year old girl. Megan Hill was last seen on October 19, 2014 in Lloydminster by a family member. RCMP believe that Megan may be in or heading to the Stettler area. Megan is described as 5'7", 140 lbs, pierced bottom lip, shoulder length redish brown hair and has brown eyes. Anyone with information about Megan's location is urged to call the Lloydminster RCMP at 780-808-8400 or the nearest police detachment.

Fatal MVC near Wandering River

An 18 year old man is dead following a collision on Highway 63. The collision took place at 11:15 am approximately 2km south of Wandering River. A southbound SUV is believed to have crossed the centre line and collided with a northbound semi tractor trailer. The driver of the SUV succumbed to his injuries while en route to the hospital.

Highway 63 was closed to traffic as a result of this collision and subsequent investigation. It is expected that the Highway will be reopened, with delays, at 5:00 pm.

This collision took place on an undivided section of Highway 63 near a construction zone. At the time of the collision visibility, road conditions and traffic density were good. Investigators are working at determining what caused the SUV to cross the centre line. Factors such as speed, alcohol or distracted driving have not been ruled out.

The identity of the 18 year old Edmonton resident is not being released.

Impaired charges in death of Edmonton pedestrian

The Edmonton Police Service Major Collision Investigation Unit is investigating a fatal collision involving a female senior citizen in southeast Edmonton Friday evening.

Southeast Division patrol members responded to 71 Street and 86 Avenue, at approximately 9:15 p.m. last night, Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, after receiving a 911 call regarding a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, members found an injured 65-year-old female lying in a crosswalk in the Kenilworth neighbourhood, suffering from life-threatening injuries. Witnesses maintain that the male driver of a 2005 Ford Explorer was travelling northbound on 71 Street, before turning westbound on 86 Avenue, when he allegedly struck a female complainant in a marked crosswalk.

Paramedics treated the woman on scene, before transporting her to hospital where she was pronounced deceased on arrival.

Anton Magas, 77, has been charged with impaired causing death and driving over .80 causing death.

Trafficking bust in Edmonton

St. Albert RCMP

On September 19, 2014, as a result of an on-going drug investigation into the trafficking of illegal drugs, the St. Albert RCMP Drug Unit arrested 1 male adult and 1 female youth while conducting a search warrant at an apartment in Edmonton.

An undisclosed amount of drugs were seized by the RCMP including cocaine, methamphetamine, LSD, Marihuana and Ativan.

Jesse LOEWEN, age 21, a resident of Edmonton, AB, and a female youth have both been charged with:
  • 2 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Section 5(2) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • 4 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance - Section 4(1) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • 1 count of Possession of Property obtained by crime - Section 354 (1) Criminal Code
  • 2 counts of Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose - Section 88 Criminal Code

Jesse LOEWEN will be appearing in St. Albert Provincial Court on October 27, 2014. The female youth is scheduled to appear in St. Albert Provincial Court on November 4th, 2014.

“Even though the search warrant was executed at a residence in Edmonton, the accused individuals were active in trafficking and selling illegal drugs in St. Albert. We are dedicated to identify and apprehend the individuals bringing drugs into our community. Criminal activities have no boundaries” says Cpl. Layne Wakefield in charge of the St. Albert RCMP Drug Unit.

Mosque in Cold Lake vandalized

The RCMP confirms that it is investigating an incident of criminal mischief related to vandalism that occurred sometime before 6:30 a.m. yesterday morning at a local mosque.  Two windows were broken and graffiti was sprayed on one of the mosque’s external walls.

The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister for Multiculturalism, issued the following statement condemning the act of vandalism against the Cold Lake Mosque:

“Earlier today vandals spray painted the Cold Lake Mosque in Cold Lake, Alberta with hate messages. This cowardly act is unacceptable and has no place in Canada.  Canada is a strong, peaceful, pluralistic nation, and Canadians will not stand for crimes of intolerance and bigotry against anyone.  As Minister for Multiculturalism, I call on Canadians to firmly reject this and any other cowardly expressions of hatred against Canadians of any faith.”

Head-on MVC near Blackfalds

On October 24, 2014 at approximately 4:55 am the Blackfalds RCMP received 2 complaints of a truck driving southbound on the northbound lanes of Highway 2 near the Highway 12 overpass. Blackfalds RCMP attended to the complaint and at 5:03 a.m. they came across a truck on fire in the east ditch of Highway 2 adjacent to the horse race track. The Dodge truck that was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes hit head on with a semi hauling two empty fuel tankers in north bound. The driver of the Dodge truck was found outside the vehicle and transported to Lacombe Hospital with non life threatening injuries. The driver of the semi truck was shaken up but did not sustain any injuries. 

Lacombe and Blackfalds fire Departments assisted in the response to the collision. The northbound lanes of Highway 2 have been shut down from the Blackfalds overpass since the collision but they are anticipated to be open by 11:00 a.m. Blackfalds RCMP are continuing their investigation to determine the contributing factors to this collision.

Stolen property recovered in Grande Prairie

The Enhanced Greenview MD RCMP officer has recovered a stolen vehicle, along with a number of other stolen items while making patrols south of Grande Prairie.  Two people are facing charges in relation to the investigation.
Around noon on October 23 the Grande Prairie RCMP's Enhanced Greenview MD member was patrolling an area south of Grande Prairie when the officer encountered a suspicious pick-up truck parked in an area off the roadway.  An investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen. The male driver and a female passenger were taken into custody without incident.  Further investigation has resulted in the recovery of a stolen quad and other stolen property, including tools and safety equipment. 
Shawna BYERS, a 23 year old female and Dustin OHS, a 29 year old male, both from Grande Prairie, are facing charges of possessing stolen property, failing to comply with release conditions, trafficking in stolen property and break and enter.  Both have been remanded into custody. They will appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on October 27, 2014.

Bonnyville-bound weapons seized by ALERT

ALERT

Brass knuckles, stun guns, and large bowie knives destined for Bonnyville, Alta. were intercepted and seized by Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) in a joint investigation with Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

Barrie Dinning, 51, was allegedly attempting to import a range of prohibited weapons, including 15 brass knuckles, 3 stun guns, and 9 bowie knives. The package originated in the United States, and was seized by CBSA, Greater Toronto Area Region, at the International Mail Processing Centre. ALERT conducted a follow-up investigation that led to Dinning’s arrest.


Dinning was arrested by ALERT Edmonton on October 21st, with RCMP Bonnyville providing assistance.
Charges against Dinning include:
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (x 2);
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon ( x 2);
  • Importation of a prohibited weapon (x 2).

On Highway 3, the 44 km from Lundbreck to the B.C Border averages 55 wildlife vehicle collisions a year.

Tips:
Animals are on the move around dawn and dusk. If you must travel at these times, be extra alert. 
If you can't stop for a large animal, swerve towards its hind end. Animals are most likely to bolt the direction they are facing.
