Well sports fans it was a great fall evening on Thursday night in Magrath where the PeeWee Mustangs traveled to play the Magrath PeeWee football team. A evenly matched spirited affair was played between the two teams.

Peewee Mustangs vs Magrath

The Mustangs started the game on Offence and were able to move the ball up the field with runs to the right by Caleb "Catman" Jones and to the left with Evan "Hitman" Malhi. The blocking of Gus "The Meat" Halibert, Ty "Real Deal" Anderson, Justin "The Equalizer" Nelson, Johnny "Flash" Parker, "Calculating" Connor Saulnier, Curtis "Ironman" Giesbrecht and Joseph "The Silencer" Yellowface opened up many nice holes. Gareth "Eyes" Kaack made a couple of nice runs under the direction of quarterback "Gunner" Trent Metcalfe. Quaterback "Bullet" Brody Walter kept to his nickname by completing a beautiful pass to "Hands" Grace Kirkness. The quote of the game came from "Cutter" Lance Palao who, after one of many long runs up the middle, gave the following credit "I am running so well today because I watch Jon Cornish from the Calgary Stampeders run on YouTube before the game". So Jon and the Calgary Stampeders, a big shout out and thank you for all you do for minor football. The team all moaned last week when we started to practice the b-wedge run, however it was the popular play in the huddle at game time with Cutter Lance bouncing to long runs for touch downs off the wedge.

On defense the Magrath team had limited success running up the middle against a motivated line made up of Gus "The Meat" Halibert, "Gunner" Trent Metcalfe, and Ty "Real Deal" Anderson supported by linebackers Curtis "Ironman" Giesbrecht, Caleb "Catman" Jones and "Cutter" Lance Palao. The pass game was limited to one completed pass by half backs "Hands" Grace Kirkness and Justin "Equalizer" Nelson supported by safeties Evan "Hitman" Malhi, "Calculating" Connor Saulnier and Joseph "The Silencer" Yellow Face. The outside run was contained by Johnny "Flash" Parker and Gareth "Eyes" Kaack. Curtis "Ironman" Giesbrecht and Ty "Real Deal" Anderson were able to corral fumbles by Magrath and Ty made a beautiful interception by not being fooled by a screen pass. In the end the Mustangs defense bent but did not allow Magrath into the endzone.

The game ended with the Mustangs having scored two touch downs and they kept Magrath from scoring any points. Kudos need to go out to all the players for exhibiting fair play and to all the fans that cheered for all the good plays, not just the playes for one team. A great game, good fun and very enjoyable victory ice cream. I like victory ice cream, but most important great fun was had by all. Next game is the big game at McMahon Stadium this Saturday at 10:00 am followed by a Thursday home game at 6:00 pm at Mathew Halton field against Raymond.
Until next time this is Coach Tom reminding everyone that every day is a great day for football (but Thursday was really really nice).
