French language Mobile Collection available at Pincher Creek and District Municipal Library

Pincher Creek Municipal Library

The Médiathèque of Lethbridge is honoured to bring communities together with the acquisition of a Mobile Collection that will help patrons from the Pincher Creek and surrounding communities to improve their French reading and listening skills. The Mobile Collection contains French language books, CDs, DVDs, and other resources for both children and adults. The majority of items are for children/youth.

Because of these new Mobile Collections, Pincher Creek and District Municipal Library has greater access to French materials to better serve the area. The Collection will change on a rotational basis as the different blocks of materials travel between libraries in communities that have French Immersion programs in their schools (for example, St. Michael’s School, Pincher Creek). To view and borrow the French language materials, please visit Pincher Creek and District Municipal Library.

The Médiathèque of Lethbridge is the only French Library south of Calgary (located in the Cité des Prairies French Cultural Community Center) and serves all Southern Alberta communities thanks to partnership with Chinook Arch Regional Library Systems (CARLS). A dedicated team of librarians is always on hand to help out with reading suggestions. The on-site collection at the Médiathèque (books, audiobooks, videos, etc) is very extensive and is comprised of more than 6,000 items, not including the digital collection. Books are easily accessible to all Chinook Arch Regional Library System patrons thanks to availability within the Chinook Arch catalogue. Patrons can visit www.pinchercreeklibrary.ca to search for and request materials.

Médiathèque also boasts its very own French Digital Collection of about 800 titles ("Collection numérique") with French provider Numilog. Registration is free to all Chinook Arch patrons (including patrons of Pincher Creek & District Municipal Library), and at a cost of $15 for an annual membership for all other patrons. More information can be found on the Médiathèque website (www.mfem.ca). Account registration must be made through the Médiathèque team.

Thank you to Sophie Morley of the Médiathèque for providing much of the information for the press release and for helping put together the Mobile Collections. Thank you also to Chinook Arch Regional Library System for their work cataloguing all the books and preparing the Mobile Collections for borrowing.
