Rocky Mountain 4-H Swine Club returns

Nelz Vance, Rocky Mountain 4-H Swine Club reporter
Nelz Vance is going into his 4th year as a member of the Rocky Mountain 4-H Swine Club, which accepts members from the ages of 9 - 18 years old. This year he is taking on the position of reporter. There are 10 kids registered with the club this year. The club did not run last year because there were not enough kids registered, but they have 4 new members for this season. This year all the kids will be doing a Market Hog Project. "We have to keep a record book," said Vance. Part of those records must contain how much each pig is fed, what they weigh when they buy them, how many pounds they gain per day, how much they sell for, and other information. Vance said all the kids get their pigs in March.

"We have speech or demonstration," he said about one of the mandatory efforts of the club - Public Speaking. "I like all of the activities that we do," Vance said. Those change each year but Vance has done wall climbing and white water rafting with the club. Vance is 12 years old that goes to St. Michael's School. He plays of the Peewee Chinooks as defence.
