Balzac theft suspects sought
Airdrie RCMP are seeking assistance from the public to identify a two suspects in a theft from Costco.
On July 25, 2014 a male and a female entered the Balzac Costco. After shopping, at the checkout, the couple had difficulty paying. When requested by staff to wait while a manager was called, the male and the female exited the store with their cart filled with merchandise, bypassing the staff member at the door who asked to see their receipt.
Airdrie Rural RCMP was contacted, and investigation to identify ensued. Calgary Police were also contacted in connection with similar thefts possibly involving these suspects.

Video surveillance was collected, and suspects are described as follows:
Caucasian male,
- early 30’s,
- 5’10
- skinny build,
- short dark hair,
- wearing a black ball cap and white track suit
- early 30’s

- average build

- wearing a grey shirt with a black sweater, blue jeans and red shoes.
Airdrie RCMP are seeking assistance from the public to identify a two suspects in a theft from the Bench clothing store in Cross Iron Mills.
On September 19th, 2014 at approximately 8:00 pm, two males entered the Bench Store in Cross Iron Mills. The males surveyed the store and when not in view of staff, selected a number of clothing items, placed them underneath the clothing they were wearing and departed the store without paying.
A staff member noticed the thefts a short time later and contacted RCMP. Video surveillance was reviewed.

The Calgary Police Service is investigating a fatal motorcycle collision that took place this morning, Monday, Sept. 29, 2014.
At approximately 11:30 a.m., a 55-year-old man was operating a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound on 4 Street N.W., when a woman in a 2011 Honda Civic traveling south on the same street, turned left onto the path of the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist applied his brakes, locking the front wheel, causing the motorcycle to drop. Both the motorcycle and man struck the Honda Civic.
The man received fatal head injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. The woman was not injured.
Alcohol or speed are not considered to be factors in the collision.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Traffic Section at 403-567-4000.
Single vehicle fatality near Fort McMurray

On Monday September 29th , at 4:29am, Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a single vehicle crash approximately 27 kilometers north of Fort McMurray on Highway 63 near the Borealis Camp that claimed the life of a 52 year old man.
The man was the lone occupant of a sports utility vehicle that had been traveling north on Highway 63 when it left the road, went into the ditch and rolled several times. The man was not wearing a seatbelt and was still in the vehicle when RCMP arrived on scene. Police continue to work on a cause for this crash, but can say alcohol and or drugs are not suspected to be a contributing factor.
Sections of Highway 63, in the vicinity of the crash, were limited to one lane but have since been reopened.
Wood Buffalo RCMP will not be releasing any further details on the deceased man out of respect for the family as notification continues. Police continue to investigate this unfortunate occurrence.
Armed robbery in Red Deer
Red Deer RCMP are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at approximately 7:00 am on Sunday, September 28 in the area of 39 Avenue and 44 Street. A Red Deer man was walking to work when he was stopped by three men, all of whom carried knives. One man threatened the victim with a knife before punching him once. The three suspects took his backpack, cell phone and wallet and ran from the area on foot, heading eastbound on 44 Street. Police searches of the area did not locate the suspects, and the victim did not sustain any injuries from the assault.
The suspects were all wearing black pants, black winter jackets and balaclavas, and were between 5’4” and 5’8” tall, with skinny builds. All three were described as being between the approximate ages of 16 and 19 years old.

Spruce Grove/Stony Plain RCMP have laid charges following two brazen robberies in as many days.
On Thursday, September 25, a man with a knife robbed "Jack's Drive In", just as the business was preparing to close for the evening.
The following day, September 26th, a man with a knife entered a "Petro Canada" convenience store in Spruce Grove just after noon, demanding money.
Extensive patrols of the area and diligent police work allowed RCMP to arrest a suspect within 30 minutes of the Petro Canada robbery.
39 year old Darryl Jack Walker of Spruce Grove is charged with two counts of robbery with a weapon. He did not speak to bail, and has been remanded into custody until his October 1st court appearance in Stony Plain Provincial Court.
He has a related criminal record.

On September 26, 2014 at 8:05 am, on Meadowbrook Drive near Mayfair Close, a 12 year old female was crossing the road at a marked crosswalk. The child was struck by a vehicle and knocked down.
Airdrie RCMP and Alberta Provincial Emergency Medical Services were dispatched. The female youth received minor scrapes and bruises, was evaluated as a precaution, and released to her mother.
The driver of the vehicle was charged with Failing to Allow a Pedestrian to Use a Crosswalk Safely.
Airdrie RCMP would like to remind drivers to use caution at all times, and be especially cautious in residential and school zones.

Multiple charges laid against Okotoks man

On September 26 at approximately 11:34 P.M Okotoks RCMP received a call of a disturbance at a residence. A male was arrested and taken into custody for numerous criminal code charges.
The investigation revealed that the male was involved in recent B & E/ Thefts, at Classic Source for Sports (x 2), The Boot Hill Gallery and Urban Optique.
17 criminal code charges stemming from these recent events are as follows: aggravated assault, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, possess weapon dangerous to public peace, uttering threats, break and enter-theft x 4 and fail to comply with undertaking x 9.
The 42 year old male was been remanded into custody pending a bail hearing on Monday September 29th, 2014 in Calgary, Alberta.
The matter is still under investigation and further charges are pending.

Brooks RCMP are requesting the assistance of the public to help solve a vehicle fire that had occurred on Spruce Avenue in Sunnylea, outside of Brooks, Alberta.
Sometime between Sunday, September 21st and the morning of Friday, September 25th, 2014 an unknown amount of persons entered an unlocked GMC Sierra located along the Sunnylea train tracks. While inside the vehicle, the unknown persons set fire to the interior of the vehicle before fleeing.
Grande Prairie RCMP
At approximately 7:55 pm on Sunday September 28, 2014, RCMP responded to a call involving a firearm in the area of 105th Street and 72nd Avenue in Grande Prairie.
Police attended the area and set up containment due to the risk of having a suspect armed with a long barrel firearm. The suspect was located and was apprehended without incident.
The investigation revealed that the suspect had a camouflaged pellet gun that resembled a pump action shotgun. He was released without charges and no charges are pending.
Police would like to thank the person/s who called the incident in as this helps to keep our community and neighbourhoods safe.
Hit and Run near Calgary
Strathmore RCMP
The man is being treated at hospital and is in critical but stable condition. It is believed this man commonly walked in this area. The man was wearing dark clothing and was found with luggage at the scene. The man's name is being withheld pending notification of family.
Anyone with information that could assist in this investigation, or was in the area on the evening of September 24, 2014 and saw this male walking on the side of the Highway, is asked to contact Strathmore RCMP at 403-934-3968.
Man charged in Fox Creek firearm incident
Fox Creek RCMP
A 37 year old man is facing 5 charges as a result of a firearm being discharged from a vehicle in Fox Creek on Saturday September 27, 2014.
The charges are: Unsafe Storage of Firearms, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Restricted Firearm with Ammunition without a Licence/Registration and Child Endangerment.
The man charged will make his first court appearance on Monday November 24, 2014 in Fox Creek Provincial Court at 10:00 am.
Police are not releasing any further detail regarding this event and the male charged, as doing so could risk disclosing the children's identities.
Background: On Saturday, September 27 a vehicle was parked in the cul-de-sac of 8A Avenue in Fox Creek, Alberta. The two parents left three children ages 1 to 6 years old in the vehicle to go into a house. While gone, the eldest child fired a rifle that was sitting in the passenger seat, discharging it out of the driver's side. No one was injured and the RCMP made an arrest.
Stolen Strathmore area vehicles recovered
Okotoks RCMP
The trucks were located via GPS tracking devices in the 300 block of Sheep River Place, Okotoks. Two of the trucks were on the street/alley, the third was parked in a driveway. Okotoks RCMP secured a warrant to take this truck and during the subsequent search, a fourth stolen vehicle was located on the property as well. This one is a Jeep Patriot that was stolen out of Calgary.
No one has been charged yet with regards to these vehicles and the investigation is ongoing.

At approximately 7:30 am on September 29, Red Deer RCMP responded to a report of an unconscious and apparently deceased male in a vehicle in the area of 51 Avenue and 34 Street in Red Deer, Alberta. On arrival, RCMP and EMS confirmed that the male was deceased. Several emergency vehicles were on the scene for several hours in order to contain the scene and remove the deceased male from the vehicle.
At this time, RCMP do not believe this death to be suspicious, but an autopsy will be scheduled in Calgary to confirm cause of death. RCMP are not releasing the man’s name pending notification of next of kin.
