ALERT
A 24-year-old Lethbridge mother was arrested by Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) after her newborn baby was being brought along on suspected drug dealing.
The baby boy, who is less than a month old, was removed from a vehicle along with nearly $9,000 worth of crack and powder cocaine. The boy’s mother, a 24-year-old Lethbridge woman, and a 17-year-old young offender were also arrested.
ALERT’s Lethbridge team, which includes members of Lethbridge Regional Police Service and RCMP, made the arrest on the evening of September 16th. Investigators witnessed the accused engaged in behaviour consistent with drug trafficking and made the decision to prematurely conclude the investigation in order to protect the welfare of the child.
Southern Alberta Child and Family Services were notified and are assisting with the investigation. The baby was placed in the care of a family member.
The arrest took place at a vehicle stop in Claresholm, Alta. The cocaine was individually packaged, totaling 85 grams. Other drug paraphernalia, including digital scales and packaging materials was also seized.
The 24-year-old Lethbridge woman, who is not being named in order to protect the identity of the baby, was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a controlled substance.
The 17-year-old youth was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of proceeds of crime.
Calgary man sought on warrants
The Calgary Police Service is seeking public assistance in locating a man wanted on several warrants.
The warrants stem from a domestic-related incident where a man is alleged to have stalked and threatened a woman he was formerly in a relationship with. He is also wanted for violating conditions of his most recent release.
John Arthur FORDHAM, 31, of Calgary, is being sought on one count each of criminal harassment/stalking and threat to intimidate, as well as two counts of breaching his release conditions.
FORDHAM is Caucasian, 6’3” tall and 220 pounds with a heavy build. He has brown hair and brown eyes.
FORDHAM is believed to be in the Calgary area, and anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods:

Collision between truck and youth cyclist
Grande Prairie RCMP
RCMP are investigating a collision between a truck and a youth on a bicycle that occurred lSeptember 18 at approximately 5:15 pm. RCMP and other emergency responders were called to a collision between a pick up truck and cyclist at the intersection of 96th Street and 108th Avenue. Grande Prairie Fire Department and Grande Prairie Ambulance treated and transported a young male to a local area hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
Initial reports are that the driver of the pick-up truck fled the scene. The driver did stop a short distance from where the incident occurred and contacted police to advise that he had been in the collision. RCMP are still investigating.
EPS Canine Unit places top five at national competition

Members from the Edmonton Police Service Canine Unit recently put on a show for more than 10,000 spectators at the annual Canadian Police Canine Association dog trials, taking home third, fourth and fifth place overall.
The friendly competition took place in Kelowna from September 10 to 14, 2014. Three EPS Canine Unit officers and their police service dogs competed against 24 handlers from law enforcement agencies across Canada in areas of obedience, agility, tracking, building searches, compound searches, evidence search and criminal apprehension.
Const. Scott Mitchler and police service dog Jack placed second in tracking and fifth place overall. Const. Dennis Dalziel and Kane took home a first place finish in evidence search, second in building search, fourth in tracking, fifth in agility and obedience and fourth place overall. Const. Ryan Busby and Jagger placed first in both compound search and agility, with a fourth place finish in obedience and third place overall.
“We are very proud of the accomplishments of our teams,” says Sgt. Bart Lawczynski of Canine Unit. “The Edmonton Police Service Canine Unit has a long-standing tradition of achievement. The success of our officers and their service dogs shows each members’ commitment to the greater goal of providing the best support we can to patrol members, specialized units and the community.”
The Canadian Police Canine Association dog trials are hosted annually to promote friendly competition and networking between Canadian law enforcement agencies.

Fatal MVC on Highway 13
Killam/Forestburg RCMP
On Thursday, September 18, 2014 at approximately 3:09 p.m., Killam/Forestburg RCMP as well as Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to a two vehicle motor vehicle collision on Highway 13, west of Strome.
Investigation has revealed that the driver of a motorcycle was travelling east on Highway 13 when the vehicle collided with a westbound semi truck. The driver of the motorcycle succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A portion of Highway 13 between Strome and Daysland was closed until just after 8:00 p.m. while RCMP conducted their investigated and crews removed debris.
SVR fatality near Consort
At approximately 4 a.m. on September 19, 2014, Consort RCMP responded to a Single Vehicle Rollover east of Consort, on Highway 12. The eastbound Dodge pickup truck entered the northbound ditch rolling several times. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle died on scene.
Identification of the deceased will not be released at this time.
Consort EMS and Consort Fire Department attended and assisted at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing at this time.
Airdrie thieves caught on cam

The RCMP is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying two males involved in a theft from Staples in Airdrie.
At approximately 1:30 pm on September 18th, 2014, two males entered the Airdrie Staples. The males walked around the store, then located a laptop computer with a detachable screen, and cut the security cable attaching it to the display. One of the males then placed the screen down his pants and both departed the store.
The males were captured on video surveillance and are described as follows:
First male:
· Male, 20’
· Caucasian
· Clean shaven
· Short dark hair
· Slight or small build
· Wearing a black hat, aviator style sunglasses, a multicolored shirt with eagles on the shoulders

· Male, 30’s

Fort Vermilion RCMP is investigating the theft of a vehicle from the Boyer River Reserve. Sometime between the hours of 01:00 am and 09:30 am on September 14, 2014 Individual(s) stole a Blue 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier. The vehicle was later reported in a single vehicle rollover. When RCMP arrived on the scene, no one was found in or near the vehicle. The vehicle had been left unlocked with the window open and the keys in the ignition.
Fort Vermilion RCMP would like to remind drivers never to leave their keys in the ignition or anywhere inside the vehicle, and to ensure that all doors are locked and the windows rolled up. Do not leave valuables in the car at any time. This only presents opportunities and makes it easier for thieves to target vehicles.

Canada wide warrant executed in Grande Prairie

Red Deer RCMP
At 8:30 am September 19 Red Deer RCMP responded to a report of a man walking in the downtown area earlier in the morning with what witnesses believed to be a weapon. RCMP immediately began searching the area for the man.
Because the reported sighting happened near Central Middle School, the school was placed in a Hold and Secure situation, which allows them to continue their daily routine with elevated levels of security. The Hold and Secure situation was initiated as a precaution and no students or staff were in danger. The Hold and Secure status was lifted soon after, when police determined that the area near the school was safe.
RCMP investigation, with the support of video surveillance, has subsequently confirmed that the report was unfounded.

Rocky Mountain House RCMP
On September 17 at 4:15 pm, the Rocky Mountain House RCMP, EMS, Fire and Search and Rescue responded to call of a vehicle in Abraham Lake. Civilian witness arrived on scene shortly after the incident and attempted to gain access to the vehicle but were unable to do so as the vehicle was completely submerged under water.
On September 18 a RCMP police dive team attended and were able to successfully remove the vehicle from the lake. A 22 year old deceased male was located inside the vehicle. His name is not being released until his family has been notified.
Police continue to investigate this matter and are working with the Medical Examiner. It is believed that the vehicle was travelling Westbound on Hwy 11 and left the roadway entering the lake. Alcohol and speed are believed to be a factor in the incident.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or events leading up to the crash to call the Rocky RCMP detachment.

On Wednesday September 17th, while conducting a traffic operation on Highway 881 near Gregoire Lake Estates, a Wood Buffalo RCMP Municipal Traffic Service police vehicle containing a police service dog was involved in rear end collision and sustained damage.
The police vehicle was stationary on a side road off the highway with emergency lights activated with a violator stopped for speeding when a Jeep Liberty was flagged over by another member from Traffic Services for speeding.
It appears the driver of that vehicle attempted to place his seatbelt on while driving. As a result the driver lost control upon turning on the side road and collided with the rear bumper and fender of the stationary police vehicle causing approximately $4000.00.
Thankfully no one was injured during this incident including the police service dog. This matter remains under investigation with charges pending against the driver of the Jeep Liberty.
Wood Buffalo RCMP Traffic Services was also kept busy on the night of Thursday September 18th. At approximately 10:20pm, police observed two vehicles racing on Thickwood Blvd. near Signal Road. Both cars were stopped and each driver received a violation ticket in the amount of $402.00 for “Engaging in a Race on a Highway”. Approximately 1 hour later, the same traffic member observed two different vehicles racing on Highway 63 near Thickwood Blvd. Police were able to stop one of the vehicles and the driver was issued a summons to court for traveling 151 km/hr in a posted 70 km/hr zone.
Some other highlights of that evening included another vehicle traveling at 182 km/hr in a posted 70 km/hr zone. Police stopped that vehicle and the driver also received a summons to attend court. The Traffic Services Specialty Narcotics Dog was also out there earning working hard. As a result of a traffic stop the dog was able to locate approximately 3.3 grams of Methamphetamine from the inside of a vehicle. The driver is facing charges as a result.
Wood Buffalo RCMP would like to remind drivers as summer turns to fall, visibility and road conditions will start to decrease. This includes frost on windshields. Please clean them off properly before driving. The speed zones are put in place for a reason. Please pay attention to them and stay safe while out on the roadways.

Crane Chief in custody
Lethbridge Regional Police have arrested 40-year-old Lucien Maurice Crane Chief, previously wanted on a charge of second degree murder in the death of Cynthia Badarm. Crane Chief was located and arrested without incident in a south side neighbourhood after police received a tip from a member of the public.
Police thank the public for their assistance.
A court date for Crane Chief has not yet been set. An update will be provided when available.
BACKGROUND (previously released):
Lethbridge Regional Police have charged a 40-year-old man with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a 37-year-old woman.
Cynthia Pearl Badarm, 37, of Lethbridge, died Wednesday after being assaulted by a male acquaintance.
On Sept. 17, 2014 at approximately 12:30 p.m. police responded to a report that a male had assaulted Badarm along the 400 block of 5 Street South. Police attended and located the victim with a group of people. While speaking to police Badarm experienced medical distress and an ambulance was called. EMS subsequently transported her to hospital.
Witnesses reported Badarm had been assaulted by a male acquaintance who left the area prior to police arrival. At approximately 12:40 p.m. police located the 40-year-old male subject a short distance away and he was arrested, charged with assault and released.
Later in the afternoon police were notified Badarm had died in hospital.
Badarm’s body was subsequently transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Calgary and an autopsy was performed Sept. 18. The autopsy determined Badarm died from injuries sustained as a result of blunt force trauma.

51 year old Samuel Calladine was located and arrested in the downtown area of Grande Prairie at approximately 8:30 p.m. Calladine was wanted on Canada wide warrants out of British Columbia for aggravated assault and uttering threats. Calladine was arrested without incident and transported back to Grande Prairie RCMP cells where he was held for a judicial interim hearing.
