To qualify, a student should be over the ages of 15 and under 18 at time of departure, in the upper third of his or her academic class, of good character and emotionally stable, and be in good physical condition. Most importantly, he or she must be able and willing to be a good ambassador.
The student, or the student’s family, is expected to pay travel and insurance costs, as well as provide some spending and emergency money, which amounts to a total of $5 500. An additional $1 000 will be paid by the sponsoring Rotary Club. The total cost is approximately $6,500 for the whole year. Room, board, and schooling are provided by the host Rotary club and family.
Annually, 7,000 students from more than 80 countries take part in exchanges sponsored by Rotary clubs world wide. The Rotary Club of Pincher Creek has hosted students from Norway, Germany, and Thailand, Taiwan, Belgium, and presently from Croatia. The club is also interested in finding host families for our incoming student. In general the exchange student stays 3 months with each host family.
Student application forms can be found on the web under www.yex5360.org The completed short application form needs to be submitted to your school secretary by October 8th, 2014. Interviews will follow shortly thereafter. The student that has been accepted to the program will be notified before Christmas. He/she will begin his/her exchange in August of 2015.
