Oldman River flood mitigation work begins near Highway 2 bridge north of Fort Macleod

According to a tweet by @511Alberta flood mitigation work begins today, August 15, 2014 that will affect traffic crossing over the Highway 2 bridge north of Fort Macleod.

"During the 2013 flood, the Oldman River shifted to the north causing damage to the bridge on Highway 2.  Emergency repairs were completed to reopen the highway.  The purpose of this (current) work involves constructing a rock protected spur in the river channel to help guide the channel through the bridge opening.  Additional larger rocks will also be placed between the bridge and the spur. - @511Alberta

Speed will be reduced to 80 km/hr in both directions across the bridge.  Southbound motorists may encounter minor infrequent delays during the course of this work, which is expected to conclude October 15, weather permitting.
