Stephen Neis and Carol Thibert from the 2019 Canada Winter Games Lethbridge Bid Committee were in the Ranchland Mall from 1 – 4 p.m. today, Friday August 1.
Neis explained that they have identified the need for 4,000 volunteers if Lethbridge wins the bid host the games. "We have 2,500 signatures already, we would like to show 4,000 volunteers before he committee is in Lethbridge on August 21." Over 100 people signed up as potential volunteers. Members from the bid committee will be in Crowsnest Pass 1 - 4 pm on Saturday, August 2 at the Blairmore Elks Community Hall, located at 2025-129 St, Blairmore, to sign up more volunteers.
The Bid Evaluation Committee will be touring the two potential sites for the games: Lethbridge on August 21 and Red Deer on August 22. Neis said that they are here to raise the profile about the games, answer questions, and speak to the public about what the massive event could mean to the region gaining support for the bid to host the games in Lethbridge, with some events hosted in Pincher Creek, Castle Mountain and the Crowsnest Pass. Neis invited interested members of the public to be part of a Community Rally that will take place 11:00 am - 3:00 pm Thursday, August 21 at the Galt Gardens in Lethbridge while the Bid Evaluation Committee is touring to show support from the entire region.
"This is how we're doing it, one name at a time," said Neis who was very impressed with the support from the area. "That grass roots support is how we are going to win the games. We have had fantastic local media response. It really makes it, having media on board."
