On July 7, 2014 at approximately 1:45 pm Vermilion RCMP officers were advised of the discovery of a motor vehicle in dense brush off a gravel road in a rural area south of Innisfree, Alberta. The mid to late 1990s Pontiac Grand Am had been discovered by a person walking in the area. The vehicle had come to rest against a tree.
Upon arrival at the scene, RCMP officers discovered a single motor vehicle collision. A deceased man was located inside the vehicle and was subsequently identified as Imants ZARINS, a 35-year-old foreign worker from Latvia, who had been reported missing from Innisfree, Alberta on June 30, 2014. Mr. Zarins had last been seen on or about June 28, 2014 and reported missing after failing to show up for work.

Fatal MVC near Wildwood
On July 8, 2014 at approximately 1030 am Evansburg RCMP were dispatched to a single vehicle collision several kilometres west of Wildwood on Hwy 16. Yellowhead County Fire and EMS also attended the scene.
As a result of the investigation to date it is believed that a blue 2003 Hyundai Elantra, driven by a 71 year old female from New Westminster, British Columbia, left the roadway and rolled over coming to rest on its roof in water. The driver and the 34 year old male passenger, also from British Columbia, were removed from the vehicle by passing motorists who stopped to assist.
Despite the efforts of those who stopped to assist and Emergency Services the driver died at the scene. The passenger was transported by STARS Air Ambulance to hospital in Edmonton for treatment of serious injuries. It appears both driver and passenger were wearing seatbelts.
West bound traffic on Hwy 16 was down to one lane for several hours, and closed briefly for the landing of the STARS Air Ambulance.
This collision is still under investigation but the initial indication is that speed and alcohol were not factors in the collision. Further information will be released once it becomes available.
