Megan Rainford was a highly visible presence throughout the 2014 Southern Alberta Summer Games. She was Regional Director for Pincher Creek. "I organized all the athletes that are registering with our community and make sure they get all the information they need to participate in the games," Rainford explained.  "During the games, I got the fun part of going around and checking in on them and cheering them on."  She also took lots of photographs of the events as she made her rounds, some of which you can see accompanying this and other Pincher Voice articles.

Rainford graduated from St. Michael's School in 2010. She is currently working for the Town of Pincher Creek Recreation Department and will return to the University of Lethbridge in the fall, where she is studying Physical Education.  She has another year and half to go.

During the games Rainford had the chance to play basketball against her mother and several teachers from St. Michael's, where she had attended high school.   "It was a riot, just a lot of fun.  It was really close at the beginning, they had me worried.  Maybe they got tired, or we got lucky, I'm not sure," she said about her team's win.

"One of the best thing about the games is I just did a practicum in Lundbreck, and lots of the students were participating, so I got to see them again."

"It was really busy before the games, quick deadlines, and long hours.  It was worth it, for sure.  I have heard really good things from a lot of parents, and the kids seemed to really enjoy themselves too."

Her favourite part of the games? "Just seeing the participants enjoying themselves, with smiles on their faces, going really hard and competing.  There were athletes of all ages, and that was one of the really cool things too, all of the family events.  A bunch of families from Pincher Creek put in a relay team, or a bowling team, and to see people do that with their kids, I love that."
