At 11:00 pm June 17 the Municipal District of Crowsnest Pass released the following statement:
The Municipality of Crowsnest Pass has declared a State of Local Emergency at 5:50 pm due to diversion at the sewer plant, the high potential for overland flooding and potential evacuation of residents in low lying areas. The Municipality will be actively monitoring the water levels in the Crowsnest River and its tributaries throughout the night.

At this hour residents are advised:

100-120 mm is still expected to fall over the next 24-36 hours through to Thursday in the Crowsnest Pass.

Overland flooding is now being forecasted for McGillvary Creek and Nez Perce in Coleman.

The potential for evacuation still exists for low lying areas, residents are asked to ensure they are ready to evacuate if necessary. A Reception Centre will be staged if evacuations occur.

Sand and bags will remain available at the Crowsnest Sports Complex (in the northwest corner) throughout the night. Residents will be required to bag their own sand, as staff has been deployed to other areas.

Please exercise extreme caution and keep a safe distance around the Crowsnest River, creeks and tributaries as banks are extremely unstable.

Equipment is currently being mobilized to key areas should they be required for debris removal overnight.

For more information or if you have any concerns please contact the Municipal Office at (403) 562-8833 which is open from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm or phone the after-hours emergency line at (403) 562-2021.
