Hewetson Avenue was closed for a period of time today from just south of the entrance to Vista Village to the bottom of the Hewetson Avenue hill as crews dealt with the aftermath after a dump truck apparently travelled west with its bucket up from a worksite on Dundas Street near James Avenue, then along Frederick Street, and then northbound on Hewetson Avenue before tangling with lines at the base of the hill that leads north to the Ranchland Mall and then Highway 6. The incident occurred at approximately 12:15 pm. Hewetson Avenue has since been reopened.

The dump truck appears to have sustained significant damage as a result of the incident. RCMP and Town of Pincher Creek Bylawwere on scene, and workers cleaned up the trail of gravel leading to the scene. The dump truck bucket appears to have been mostly empty during its travel from the worksite to the site of the incident. There were no serious injuries, but an estimated 400 homes in the area may be without phone and cable service for a while until repairs can be carried out.
