84 year old Calgary man missing
The Calgary Police Service is requesting the assistance of the public in location a missing person.
Thomas McDonald, 84 years old, was last seen at 3:45pm on May 19th at the Foothills Medical Center, 1403 29 St NW. MCDonald is a caucasian male, 6'2" tall and weighing 155lbs.
Anyone who has seen Mr. McDonald is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service.
Two vehicle collision claims one life on Westlock area highway
On May 17, 2014 at approximately 4:30 pm, emergency personnel from RCMP, Westlock EMS and Westlock Fire were dispatched to a collision scene approximately 1 km south of town on Hwy 44. A northbound Jeep entered into the southbound travel lane
colliding head on with a Semi tractor and trailer. The lone British Columbia area male driver of the Jeep was confirmed deceased upon arrival of emergency crews. The lone semi tractor driver was examined by emergency responders on scene and confirmed uninjured by the incident.
Police are continuing their investigation with the assistance of a RCMP Traffic Analyst to provide details into the collision.
At this time police are not treating the collision with a suspicion of impaired driving or other impairing factors. The name of the British Columbia area male is not being released by police as family notifications are still being carried out.
Police are reminding road users to be extra patient in their travels during the summer months with the increase of holiday trailers and recreational vehicles on the roadways travelling at usual slower speeds.
Edmonton rollerblader suffers serious injuries after being struck by car
The Edmonton Police Service Traffic Section is investigating a collision on Monday evening that sent a rollerblader to hospital with serious injuries.
At approximately 8:15 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2014, it was reported that a 24-year-old woman on rollerblades was in the process of using the crosswalk at 167 Avenue and 95 Street. A car travelling westbound in the curb lane stopped for the woman and she proceeded to cross north to south on 167 Avenue. However a Mitsubishi travelling westbound in the centre lane of 167 Avenue failed to stop and struck the woman. The rollerblading woman was not wearing a helmet and suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. EMS treated and transported the woman to hospital. The male driver and female passenger in the Mitsubishi did not report any injuries.
The EPS Major Collision Investigation Unit continues to investigate what factors may have contributed to the collision, and it is unknown at this time if there will be charges against the 24-year-old male driver of the Mitsubishi.

On May 20, 2014, Thorsby RCMP and Thorsby Fire responded to a two vehicle collision at Highway 39 and Township Road 494.
On arrival, the driver of one of the vehicles was found to have suffered significant serious injuries and was transported to hospital via STARS Air Ambulance. The passenger of the same vehicle sadly was pronounced deceased on scene.
The collision is still under investigation.

Donkey theft in Leduc County
On the 12th of May 2014, at approximately 1:00 p.m., a witness observed two females in an older model black Jeep Cherokee with a donkey belonging to a local farmer at township road 482 between Rural Road 252 and 251, in Leduc County. The donkey was subsequently loaded into an unknown truck and trailer and taken away.
“This was a family pet and the owner is quite upset about the theft”, says Cst. BURCHETT of the Leduc Integrated Traffic Services Unit. A notice has been sent to livestock officials and other social media is being monitored in attempts of locating this animal.
The Leduc RCMP is encouraging anyone having information about the whereabouts of the missing Donkey to please contact the Leduc RCMP at: (780) 980-7200, (780) 980-7231, or Crime stoppers at: 1 800-222-8477
Pursuit leads to arrest of vehicle theft suspect
On Monday, May 19th, 2014, Vegreville and Two Hills RCMP responded to a call of a robbery on Range Road 151 in Two Hills County. RCMP located the suspect vehicle which fled from police and a pursuit ensued down Highway #857 and down several rural roads. A spike belt was used which immobilized the suspect vehicle. The suspect then fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by RCMP members in a farmer's field without incident. Several outstanding investigations were solved from this arrest. Travis HOLLAR of Mundare, Alberta, remains in custody and faces charges of robbery with an offensive weapon, flight from police, dangerous driving, theft of truck x 2, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00 x 2, possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.00 x 2, mischief under $5000.00 x 2, breach of probation x 3, and breach of a Peace Bond under the Criminal Code. Charges of possession of a schedule I substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and operating a motor vehicle without a driver's licence under the Traffic Safety Act were also laid.
Vegreville and Two Hills RCMP encourage anyone who observes suspicious activity to call their local RCMP detachment immediately and remind vehicle owners not to leave their vehicle keys and belongings inside of their vehicles when unattended.

Wood Buffalo RCMP have busy long weekend
The Wood Buffalo RCMP Municipal Traffic Unit was kept busy this past holiday weekend with several traffic initiatives. From Saturday, May 17th to Monday, May 19th, 2014, the unit was out conducting check stops along with traffic enforcement and education throughout the municipality.
Several charges were laid as a result of these initiatives ranging from Distracted Driving to Impaired Driving. Some of these charges include:
Wood Buffalo RCMP is committed to the contribution of safe roads and this project is part of that strategy. Police would like to remind the motoring public to please drive defensively, obey all traffic signs, and promote public safety.
Theft of side by side ATV in Hinton
On 2014/04/26 Hinton RCMP responded to a theft of a 2012 Polaris S 800 Razr side by side ATV which was taken from the driveway of a residence in the lower hill area of Hinton. The ATV is described as being black and white with orange factory decals. A photo of a similar ATV is attached. The VIN for the ATV is 4XAVE76A8CB432254 and it was bearing Alberta licence of BUA56. This vehicle is also missing the front storage compartment door.
